I opened up duckduckgo which said my available space on my computer was low. My C drive is 459 GB. This A.M. it was 5.41 GB free of 459 GB.
Now it's 2.59 GB free of 459 GB. Something's going on. I have and use CCleaner 7 and Malwarebytes. Windows Defender also. This computer never even reaches half full of the 459. I've also used disc cleanup.
Ideas? thnx

Can you delete things from your Downloads folder?
That’s where all my excess files accumulate.
Did you try turning it off and turning it back on?
Try Windirstat for space analysis.
The rm -rf command in Unix and Linux permanently deletes files and directories without asking for confirmation. The only solution.
Check your my computer shortcut and then look for your C: there. What does the available space say?
I’m not a computer guru, but have used Mac computers for a very long time. I have a MacBook Air from 2019 that suddenly advised me that I only had a few gigabytes left on the hard drive. I dumped a bunch of things but it was still close to full, and it was telling me that my applications were using over 200 Gigabytes of space than they should have. I searched online for a solution, and found several other people had the same issue with their Mac computer. Their suggestion was wiping the hard drive and installing the operating system all over again. Well, I’m not a tech person, and wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that when I’ve never done it before. I mentioned the problem to my oldest son who is a tech geek and at one time used Apple products. He said it sounded like the hard drive had gotten corrupted somehow. That may be, but I’ll be taking it to the computer shop one of these days to let them figure out what the problem is, and if it isn’t too much money, I’ll have them fix it and keep it for a spare. In the meantime, I bought myself a new 15” MacBook Air.
Yes, I delete them regularly.
.
Yes. I shut it down and restarted it. Twice.
How many GB of files are in your Downloads folder?
Check your Beeber’s Stune file.
Yeah, it’s in my OP. 2.47 GB of 459 GB
How much space is windows\temp taking?
Downloads is empty. I delete them regularly.
Here's the DOWNLOAD PAGE for that excellent product. It's saved me more times than I can count.
CV debug: 96 KB. "Desktop" w/series of numbers/letters: 286 KB. Nothing there of consequence.
Often a windows update will take up space but 12-15gb for the semiannual updates “only.”
Hate to recommend more downloads but https://diskanalyzer.com/ gives a good visual look at what’s taking space and is my go-to when wondering about why there’s less free than expected.
If you’re running Windows, there are a couple of videos on YouTube about that. Britec09 and BrenTech are the latest ones to do so. I don’t know the specifics but it has something to do with Windows dumping a lot of data files into one particular directory.
