The final sketch of Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness’s second episode, like many of the HBO historical comedy series’ sketches so far, featured some big deal guest stars alongside Larry David, as well as some of the show’s most direct political commentary to date. It most notably featured Rob Reiner as George Washington, one of his few posthumous performances following his tragic death in December 2025.
In the sketch from “Farewell,” Washington is wrapping up his second term as President with the announcement that he will not be seeking a third (term) — a decision explained in his farewell address, which also included his strong opinion that political parties were bad for the country because they might “become potent engines by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government.”
Narrator Samuel L. Jackson, in his introduction, puts some extra mustard on the “cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men” bit, and things get much less subtle from there. As Washington explains his decision to step down, he and a crowd member played by David start debating the possibility of a “narcissistic prick” of a future president, who might violate the Constitution and enrich his own interests thanks to a broken system of checks and balances.
The January 6th insurrection, the killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti, and efforts by this current administration to censor dissent are all referenced in the ensuing debate, with Jimmy Kimmel popping up as another crowd member to drive the point home. “Are you suggesting that the president would taketh the time to challenge anyone who dare make fun of him, as if he were a big baby?” he says in his tricorner hat. “I don’t see it.”

Larry David is 79 years old and he chose to crap on the USA with this crummy and profane series.
He is also lazy. A soup kitchen scene recycled elements from a “Seinfeld” episode.
David is pathetic.
Rob Reiner knocks the USA? In more important news Im thinking of rearranging my sock drawer
‘hateriots ‘ for all to see. Can’t you just imagine them screaming at all the FIFA folks....”STOP LIKING US! JUST STOP!”. It appears that most visitors appreciate what they’re seeing after being lied to for so long.
Patriotism. NOT ‘hateriotism’!🎸
😊👍🇺🇸
The article makes it sound like they propped up his body for the show.
I don’t think Rob knew he was going to be slaughtered when he decided to do this show.
I read a post by a woman who was invited by a friend to have dinner. Reiner and his wife were also guests at a party of about 6-8 people. She said the entire dinner was completely dominated by RR spewing hatred and rage, vicious seething spittle at Donald Trump and she could now understand the environment his mentally ill son grew up in.

First thought: the Bee.
Apparently, TDS can follow you into death. Who cares what these Communist billionaires think.
Try to make this show in Russia or North Korea.
The idiot simpletons at Variety obviously don’t even know what the meaning of “getting the last laugh” is.
POTUS Trump is still commander in chief of the world, and Reiner was brutally murdered alongside his wife by his drug addicted son.
Yeah, Reiner really pulled one over on Trump.
TDS delusion rolls on.
Reiner never was here he’s kocked in his own zone of darkmess.
Archie, Caroll O’Connor, was a liberal but I saw him defend Richard Nixon against one of the Harvard liberals, John Kenneth Galbraith, on Merv Griffin. Also, it was a howler when Larry David went on Skip Gates’ show to find out about his ancestors and his great-grandfather had been an officer in the Confederate Army! Larry David was disconsolate.
