US life expectancy on track to reach record high as death rate falls to record low in 2025

New mortality data from the federal government suggests that life expectancy probably hit another record high in 2025, as death rates have continued to fall since the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

There were about 689 deaths for every 100,000 people in the US in 2025, according to a new report from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — the lowest rate recorded in more than a century of tracking. The age-adjusted rate has fallen 22% since 2021, landing about 4% lower than it was just before the pandemic in 2019. ... Life expectancy is essentially a population-level snapshot of death rates in a given year. This calculation isn’t included in the new report — the mortality data is provisional and subject to change as the full set of death records are processed — but a record-low death rate would most likely suggest a record-high life expectancy, demographic experts say. The top causes of death in the US in 2025 followed longstanding patterns: Heart disease led with nearly 695,000 deaths, followed by cancer with nearly 623,000 deaths. Unintentional injuries, which includes drug overdoses, were the third leading cause of death. Overdose deaths are still high — about 70,000 people died from an overdose in 2025, preliminary CDC data shows — but experts say that sharp declines probably played a large role in bringing the age-adjusted death rate down in the US.

“Life expectancy is going to be affected a lot by what’s happening at younger age groups more than at older age groups,” said Mark Mather, .... “As we see a dramatic decline in drug overdose among younger adults, that will have a more measurable impact on life expectancy at older ages and the overall life expectancy of the population.”

The life expectancy calculation is based on per capita, so after you thin the herd with the Jim Jones Jab during the COVID-1984 Scamdemic, giving you "opportunities for improvement" and a healthier population left behind, yeah - the life expectancy looks better while at the same time excess deaths are higher.

"I had 100 cows and killed off 20 of them with an experimental bioweapon. 75 of the 80 remaining cows survived this year. Let's celebrate their higher life expectancy."

They must be awfully lonely now that the 67% of the worlds population has died from the covid vaccines.

my mom will be 90 in a few days. Her mom lived to 99, and an uncle 104. My dad was 90, his mom 103, her two brothers were 90 and 97.

All those folks ate different food than you have available to you.

I’m 80 and absurdly healthy, better than I was at 40. Barring accidents I could last 20 more years.

Same for my Mom. Over 100 year old farmhouse, 300 acres, but close enough to the town she grew up in to get to stores, her church, and restaurants with friends several times a week. Still sharp and health.
