The NBA announced Thursday that the “one free throw rule” will be “used at the summer leagues happening this month in Salt Lake City, Northern California and Las Vegas.”
The rule -- “designed to speed up play” -- means “any foul that would typically result in the awarding of one, two or three free throws will instead result in a single free-throw attempt.”
That attempt “will be worth the same total number of points as the free throws it replaces.” The G League has used this rule since 2019-20.
The rule “doesn’t apply to the entire game.” Standard free-throw rules -- two shots for a two-shot foul, etc. -- will be “utilized for the last two minutes of fourth quarters and in all of overtime.”

If they want to speed up games, crack down on the whining and flopping for foul calls.
Was watching some old games from the 80’s and literally 5 seconds after foul calls were made, the player was already shooting FTs.

I’ve always thought they should have a separate NBA league for guys under 6’2 . Bet it’d be a hell of a lot more interesting hehe .

Well...now I am really going to care about basketball. This is the rule change I was waiting for since 1987!

The game gets worse and worse. How about calling fouls on the anointed superstars for a change. They let certain players knock everyone around like they’re playing football or something. Should be minimal impact, not a beatdown. That’s what ruined the sport.
Why are they dropping the pi in that video?
I like the idea of a penalty box in BB - it would certainly cut down on fouls, given that the team would have to play 1 short for however long the penalty is for.
Raising the basket sound like a good idea too. And for crying out loud, start calling for traveling and double-dribble again, along with charging. They let the guy with the ball run over everyone, take 3 steps, palm under the ball when laying up - it’s ridiculous.
He is the only surviving member from the L&S cast.

Two to make one.
Penalty free throw (over the limit):
Two to make one.
No players available on bench (NBA rule allowing players who have fouled out to remain in the game because nobody is available, 3-I-a):
Two to make one shot (one point).
Around 1976 to 1990, on the 11th foul and further in international play, they did this. (2 x 20 minute halves)
8th foul = 2 free throws
11th foul = free throws or the ball and a full shot clock reset.
How about cuttting commerical breaks, halftime, and timeouts? Have continous play.
On the one hand, a 3 point free throw sounds incredibly stupid. On the other hand, free throws are freaking boring, especially when you get deep into the game and you start getting to 3 to make 2 territory. All the fist bumping ball spinning butt wiggling nonsense takes freaking forever. Getting it over with in 1 shot isn’t a bad idea.
Yes, I seem to recall that was the way in the international rules. Good rule.
