Ocean surface temperatures hit record high as world enters ‘uncharted territory,’ scientists warn (only 4.59 years left)

Temperatures on the ocean surface hit a record high in June, European scientists warned Wednesday, fueling fears of more dangerous heat waves this summer and fanning concerns over the escalating global climate crisis.

Two separate services under the European Union’s Copernicus Earth observation program — the Copernicus Climate Change Service and the Copernicus Marine Service — announced they had both independently confirmed the record temperatures.

Carlo Buontempo, director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service, warned that the rising temperatures could mark the “beginning of a new phase.”

“With ocean temperatures at these levels and El Niño on the horizon, we are likely to see more temperature records fall in the coming months,” Buontempo said in a statement Wednesday. El Niño is a naturally occurring climate cycle that sees the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean become warmer than usual for months at a time.

The world could be heading into “uncharted territory,” Buontempo warned.

According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service and the Copernicus Marine Service, global ocean temperatures outside the polar regions hit record levels on June 21, surpassing levels for the time of the year observed in both 2023 and 2024.

The Copernicus Climate Change Service said temperatures reached 20.86 degrees Celsius (69.54 degrees Fahrenheit) that day, climbing above the 20.83 C (69.49 F) observed in 2023 and 2024.

Here in NH, you get a warning that ocean temps are below average and hypothermia could occur if you swim. Be careful. WTH? What is it? Too warm or too cold?

AAARRRRRGGGGHHHH! We’re DOOMED! DOOMED, I say! (Actually, the Earth IS doomed, eventually, according to the Book of Revelation, but that’s another story. And there is NOTHING mankind can do about that.)

Isn't the future always uncharted?

Scientists have overlooked the destruction of Forests and grasslands being destroyed that aided in keeping our atmospheric temps in check. Billions of trees need to be planted World Wide to help cool the latent heat absorption that has been lost due to blacktop roads, concrete streets and metal roof construction. There are not enough darkness hours to cool the present levels of heat absorption. Trees provide shade, and most importantly photosynthesis converting Co2 to O2 and moisture to help cool daytime heating. Seems the World is at a point of no return without massive reestablishment of our Forests.

We are now in Solar Cycle 25 with peak sunspot activity expected in 2025, the panel said. Solar Cycle 24 was average in length, at 11 years, and had the 4th-smallest intensity since regular record keeping began with Solar Cycle 1 in 1755. It was also the weakest cycle in 100 years.

Terrible reporting. Apparently 70 degrees is an average outside of polar regions, a totally meaningless statistic. With a strong el niño developing, it would only make sense that the average would be, well, above average. Open seas in the tropics can top out at 86 degrees, so the oceans still have a long way to go.

Chantal Da Silva typically is on the NBC “white colonialists are evil” beat or the “Israel is committing genocide” beat. How did she end up writing a “Global Warming is going to destroy the world” article??

They combined them all into the "recycled leftist cliches" beat. Written by AI while she's on her 4th margarita. We're waiting to see what's next, a rehash of "Elon doesn't pay enough taxes" or a revival of the classic "world is overpopulated" drivel.

And the more radical they become, the greater their cohesion. Racism for them is anyone not conforming to their group think. The narrower their world view, the more people are racist. Classic game theory.

Can someone tell me for how long they have been measuring ocean temps with the current methods?

The useful idiots believe they are saving the World . Because of their need to virtue signal to the World how good and noble they are against the forces of darkness they make for excellent tools by those same dark forces with the right set of lies.

The concept that its possible to come up with one temperature for the ocean that can be compared requires a miracle.

Take a 12x12 room and read a thermometer at every square foot, I’m willing to bet that if its sensitive enough you will get a different result.

Now expand that to the entire ocean.

That means coastal areas should all be partially submerged by now. What’s that? They’re not?

Accurate temperature readings only go back a few hundred.

You are way too kind. Satellites are the most common and accurate tool for measuring ocean surface temperatures. They have only been widely used for about 45 years.

I saw an honest report saying the high temperature in NYC today is the highest for a July 2nd in 128 years - meaning, 128 years ago, and long before most of the industrial revolution, NYC had a July 2nd temp higher than today. Kinda refutes the global warming alarmists.

Which really means that today's temperature is the highest temperature EVER.

.o5 degrees and we are going to die

The important question is: How does the temperature at ten feet compare with readings at depth in preceding years? I suspect little difference.
