Federal judge rules Trump admin can't prevent people from using food stamps for junk food

People are allowed to poison themselves with junk food AND you have to pay for it!

At least that's the latest from our federal courts.

A federal judge on Monday blocked the Trump administration from allowing five states to ban the purchase of sugary drinks and candy with food stamps.

The decision is a major setback for Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s "Make America Healthy Again" movement, known as MAHA, which is focused on minimizing the consumption of ultraprocessed foods to reduce the prevalence of chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes.

Sorry, taxpayers must continue to fund the Kool-Aid pineapples.

Judge Amy (the person apparently in charge of the country) demands it!

US District Judge Amy Berman Jackson in the District of Columbia ruled that the US Department of Agriculture lacked the authority to approve state waivers in pilot projects in Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, Tennessee and West Virginia.

In their waivers, the states sought to change the federal definition of food to one that restricted certain products. The bans differed somewhat in each state, with all limiting the purchase of sugary drinks, such as soda and energy beverages, and some also restricting candy. The limits applied to all SNAP recipients, with no exceptions allowed.

What if Trump limited SNAP to junk food only? 🤣

Personally I don’t care where food stamp recipients get their calories from - healthy or not is their choice. But this is another example of the federal judiciary meddling in Executive Branch decisions. A competent Chief Justice, as head of the Judicial Branch, would speak publicly about this and caution the federal judges in his branch of government to stay in their lanes. But we have John Roberts, so all we’ll ever get from him is babble about how the federal judiciary is impartial and not to be questioned.

Just another example of liberal judges trying to run the executive branch.

Well, to be fair, back in the day we called beer “steak in a can and smoking weed was commonly referred to as “bakin’ a tater”. 😂

Agree with the judge...food is food.

What's to keep congress dictating to the rest of us...

The fed gov should track how much junk food is purchased with SNAP.....that number should be subtracted from the next months snap payouts.

Force them to use the benefits on what they need, not what they want.

Show us which clause in the Constitution can we find the entitlement for SNAP/EBT? If the judge were actually versed in the Constitution, she’d rule against the program altogether.

“U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson serves on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and assumed senior status on May 1, 2023. Nominated by President Barack Obama in 2011”. That tells me all I need to know about Amy.

We clearly see how far liberal judges will go to support the Leftist agenda. No amount of deceptive nonsense from him can shield us from that reality.

“What’s to keep congress dictating to the rest of us”

Because when your spending YOUR OWN MONEY you have the right buy whatever you want.

SNAP is a benefit payed for by the taxpayer.

Since the taxpayer is footing the bill (and not by choice BTW) why shouldn’t the taxpayer be able to dictate how their hard earned money that they are forced to give up is spent?

There are people out there that need help. Many are elderly.

You have no idea what the Constitution is all about do you.

So Michelle Obama can remove sugary drinks from school lunch menus by fiat… but the HHS can’t do the same for food stamps?

We all know why she’s trying to pull this sht.....it has absolutely nothing to do with what food can be purchased with SNAP.....It’s about thwarting the evil Orange Man every chance they get.
