Trump team labels cleaning algae from the Reflecting Pool a ‘regional and national priority’ ahead of July 4

The Trump administration has labeled the algae cleanup operation in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool a "regional and national priority" in an email to staff, urging them to work overtime to scrub the monument in time for July 4 celebrations, according to a report.

President Donald Trump's $14 million pet project to resurface the 2,000-foot pool, which was supposed to make the water appear an "American flag blue," has turned green after becoming infested with algae just days after completion.

National Park Service employees received an email, obtained by MeidasTouch, urging them to support "critical pre-July 4th operational needs" at the Reflecting Pool, according to the outlet.

Crews are required to help with "scrubbing and pump out operations" at the Washington, D.C. landmark and are being asked to work 12-hour shifts beginning this week in a bid to rid the pool of algae, the outlet reports.

To me, paint doesn't sound like the ideal liner. I would have used color cement or terrazzo neither of which would peel.

Trump should hire the people who he used to repair the Central Park ice rink if they're still around.

He’s right because the left is using this as an attack on our nation...

They didn’t use paint. He hired the same kind of pool experts he had hired in New York.

The algae was going to come. They saw they had to improve the system that helps kill the algae when it comes.

Of course having the reflecting pool on the national mall cleaned up before July 4th WOULD BE a priority - naturally.

https://www.ketv.com/article/lincoln-memorial-reflecting-pool-algae-photos/71616659What you are seeing is residual algae from the supply lines, which have been sitting dormant for eight weeks while construction has been taking place. It’s part of the normal startup process. We are removing the algae, and the nanobubblers will maintain the pool and keep it algae free,” communications director Kate Martin (Interior Department) said in a statement. What a visual image and representation of DC politics and politicians.
The supply lines need to be flushed!

Water in the pool flows through the Tidal Basin back into the Potomac. They likely don’t want chlorine getting into the river.

Well, Trump's first major water feature (as far as I know) didn't work out so well. Practice makes perfect I guess.

Flag Blue sounded nice, but nature apparently has other plans.

Maybe as a patriotic alternate, they can stock it with Flagfish, which are actually good algae eaters.

The underground pipes are nothing but rust. We do not maintain infrastructure here. If we did that, kickbacks for new builds would end.

DC and surrounding areas add phosphate to the water lines to help forestall/prevent the development of pinhole leaks in old copper pipes.

This feeds the algae - anyone remembering the old days of phosphate (Trisodium phosphate) detergents might recall the algal blooms in rivers, great lakes and estuaries before the days of better waste management.

DC used tap water to fill the reflecting pool.

Fill the pool with Astrosurf. Since it’s not wet, algae won’t grow and no one can drown in it.

Fill it with hippies. They loved washing their asses in it.

To me it looks like incompetence (or sabotage) . Surely the park service knows how to deal with this algae problem.

"They didn’t use paint. He hired the same kind of pool experts he had hired in New York."

Something is peeling and whoever did the repairs isn't a pool expert.

I have a pool nothing like that, but if it don’t have some kind of filtration system circulate that water continuous Feed chlorine into it or salt It can’t help but turn green

I have kids in Silver Spring and I’ve seen the pool dozens of times. It never seemed run down to me, certainly not like it does now.

The new paint is already peeling off in large sheets.

It definitely reeks of incompetence. That’s the downside of the whole “unitary executive” push. Whenever any pooch is screwed, Trump takes the credit - or blame.
