On YouTube, there’s a lot of money in it.
It’s been hilarious to me how so many YouTubers now increasingly try to hype fear, paranoia and impending disasters to get more watchers. The ones who deal in gossip and politics do the same in their own ways.
There are some content providers on YouTube who have wonderful, informational channels and work very hard at them. But even they appear to feel pressured into adding ‘sensationalist’ aspects to capture more eyes.

I remember a video of Princess Diana attending a function where she was served a dessert; and she turned her back to the gathering, to take a taste of it. She knew that some of the photographers there would love to get an unflattering snap of her shoving cake into her open pie hole.
The ghoulish paparazzi make a lot of money off of that stuff, and probably helped to kill her in their zeal.
