A German soccer fan discovers America
American Thinker ^ | 13 Jun, 2026 | Mike McDaniel

The World Cup soccer matches, held in various American cities, are providing not only economic opportunities but, for at least some Europeans, cultural revelations. There’s substantial truth to the old saw that Europeans will never forgive us for saving them in WWII. We’re the unsophisticated, arrogant, ugly Americans they love to disparage and hate. Americans, and particularly the southern variety, are nearly beneath contempt, though our dollars aren’t.

But for at least one German soccer fan traveling across the South, America and Americans have been a pleasant surprise. He has been tweeting his surprise and delight, and it’s a useful reminder just how good, unique, and amazing we really are and how very much we take for granted.

This German landed in the United States for some World Cup soccer and has been live-tweeting his experience.

This is the kinda stuff that'll make you once again proud to be an American.

I’ve never stopped, but let’s see America through the eyes of a young German: [numerous X posts at article link]

That’s true of much of America.

I doubt most Americans think Taco Bell is the holy land, but it’s good, inexpensive food.

WW2 german POW’s worked on American farms as our young men were overseas fighting. Some chose to stay-the smart ones.

Donald Trump has been paying attention in places like Washington DC...check this link out from a guy whose YouTube handle is Penguin6, a professional photographer in Washington DC. He takes his eBike around the renovated city and shows all the areas that Trump has cleaned up, focusing on fountains:

LINK: The 18 Fountains Trump is fixing in DC

I live near Boston, have visited LINK: The Frederick Law Olmstead Site)

He is responsible for much of the beauty near Boston, as he designed what we call "The Emerald Necklace", and as hard as it is for some to believe, it is a beautiful city when it comes to that. It is a beautiful thread of greenery and parks that you can take nearly seamlessly from one end of the other.

I lived in the Washington DC area for a total of about six years, four in Fairfax, VA before my dad was deployed overseas (we went with him) for five years during the Vietnam war) and two years in Cheltenham, MD (a small Naval Communication Station (NAVCOMMSTA Washington, which was famous for its configuration to bounce radio messages off the moon to the other side of the Earth before satellites quickly made it obsolete in the Sixties) near Andrews AFB after we returned.

I have spent a lot of time in the City, and like most who have, noted that Washington DC was not always a run down, graffiti-sprayed, hoodlum infested crap-hole of a city. I remembered it as a beautiful city that it stopped being for decades.

It is horrible and shameful we have allowed it. I am a huge fan of Frederick Law Olmstead, the man who is known as "The Architect of the Capitol" and for good reason.

(LINK: Frederick Law Olmstead-Founder of American landscape architecture)

Trump noticed this state of dirt, grit, graffiti, violence, and overall decrepitude as well, and did did something about it.

He was rightfully embarrassed by its decrepitude. He did that. He led the way. Not Congress. Not the Washington DC local government.

The Reflecting Pool and the Fountains all over the city are just examples of his intervention. He has done far more than that to restore the city, and you can see evidence of it just in this man driving around on his eBike as he documents the fountain renovations.

Trump has done this in SPITE of them, though they will no doubt try to take the credit for it.

God bless that man.

I think that the trump admin is taking charge of the 2028 games because the locals are so incompetent.

The German was raised on propaganda that America is a racist, hateful and bigoted country - the same propaganda that is being fed to school children in America in American schools.

Reality also for this South African:

This South African man is in awe of the safety and cleanliness at a rural American gas station

"How can America be this awesome???

Someone pinch me I think I’m dreaming!!!

I just took a walk all the way down there. Midnight. It's freaking midnight and I'm completely safe. I'm a white person walking around. That's so cool. Look at that. Those trucks - nobody's trying to rob them. No one's looting them...

America is clean. America is friendly. Look at that truck right there! It's not being robbed!"

He wouldn't want to do this in one of America's blue cities.

It’s apparent he didn’t visit the more “interesting” parts of the ATL....south of I-20 to I-285. Of the interstate that’s a no go area.

You make a good point. Last time I was in DC it was a dump. Excellent news, and Donald has
had a reputation for stewardship of architectural treasures. For example, he renovated the old DC
post office building and turned it into a 5 star hotel. He did the same with the Central Park NYC
skating rink. I'm looking forward to the triumphant arch he's planning to build.

So yes, I agree with you.

I think the arch is a great idea. It fits.

People may or may not like his approach to these things, but he damn well doesn’t kick the can down the road for some other bureaucrat to handle.

As a builder, he notices and pays attention to perception of things like building style and the state of maintenance.

That is why I voted for him!

It’s pretty obvious that Freddy is neither “real” or German. But it’s a fun social media thing.

You can raise trees and cows but not much else.

Well in Georgia (where I lived for four years years) agriculture is still big. I used to get fresh pecans from the Ace Hardware store. They were so good . . . almost juicy. ANd my wife makes pecan pie! Peanuts grow there as well, of course. Peaches grow on trees, and Georgia has those, too.

My guess is that Georgia can grow anything that begins with a "P". The clay soil is nasty for anything else, though.

I keep posting: this isn’t about soccer, it’s about the cultural and economic morale boost local businesses and states are getting. It’s about sharing America with everyday people around the world in good faith.

Good point.

I've seen several videos on YouTube where Europeans are absolutely astonished to find that what their press tells them about America is just not true.

Just like folks behind the Iron Curtain, who were shocked America wasn’t anything like what their governments said about it.

I think it would beneficial if we could send of our blue haired, ring nosed harridans to live in Gaza or Somalia for a year. Let them see how the other half live.

I’ve been reading his tweets. He was on bourbon street but wondered “why everybody was throwing beads at each other.”

Son, if you don’t know why people are throwing bead necklaces on bourbon street then you haven’t really seen bourbon street. Stay on it a while longer and you’ll understand.

I’ve had the same idea. Germany is busy destroying itself. Gaia worship has made everything unaffordable and businesses are dying. The country has been invaded by millions of feral muslims. MANY Germans want to get the hell out. They’re educated Westerners and they have a whole lot of highly skilled tradesmen.....ie exactly what we need.

So long as we screen them to keep out the utter morons who worship Gaia and open borders and socialism, I’m all in favor of taking as many of them as we can get.

No. But they should move to Australia or New Zealand.

The Rollman Skating Rink. Does NY give him credit for that? You’re right. He’ll go ahead of the lefties despite their holdups. On to the SAVE Act.
