This is really nothing new, just different flavors. America has had Ice cream floats, Root beer floats and egg creams (no actual eggs in it) for as far back as the 1920’s.

My mother’s favorite.
Whenever it was mentioned she got a dreamy look in her eye and I swear I saw that young girl who long ago in her saddle shoes enjoyed an egg cream in some NY soda fountain or luncheonette.
God I miss that girl.
It used to be real egg and before the chain hamburger joints took over America and ended great hamburgers and great hamburger stands, you could get a raw egg in your milkshake.
Coffee milk anyone? Maybe a Lime Rickey or a Catawba Flip?

I grew up drinking egg creams at our local soda fountain. I think we paid 10 cents for them. When I’ve told my kids about them the say ugh!
