The Pasadena Police Department released video on Thursday of an officer who accidentally shot a colleague while engaged in “unsafe and out-of-policy horseplay” with loaded firearms.
It happened around 6:18 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2025, in the department’s parking structure, located at 240 Ramona Street, according to Chief Gene Harris.
In the cruiser dashcam video, a police car can be seen pulling into the parking garage in front of two uniformed officers, who were standing at the rear of a police SUV that had its trunk open.
As the cruiser approached, an officer could be seen drawing his gun and pointing it directly at the approaching cruiser, which the police chief called “inappropriate.”
A few moments later, the officer reholstered the weapon as he and his colleague smiled.
The video didn’t capture what happened next inside the vehicle, put Chief Harris said the officer seated in the patrol car driver’s seat drew his handgun and “pointed it towards the other officer. During this interaction, the driving officer’s firearm discharged.”

And three (Bronx) cheers for the "only the police should have guns" crowd. Make them watch this on loop for a few hours.
They should take away his job. All of them actually. They have shown a total disregard for the serious effects of improper use of this tool. If they horseplay with the lives of friends and colleagues they will have no regard whatsoever for the people.
Yeah, "You don't need a gun. The police will protect you."
It’s been my observation over the years that a lot of cops are not “gun guys” with proper firearms protocols ingrained. Add to that continuous carry and “familiarity breeds contempt” and you get crap like this.
Only those highly trained polices should b allowed to carry guns.

We need a thorough overhaul of the way police personnel are recruited, trained, hired, trained (again), retained, promoted, and held accountable. We have too many idiots, psychos, bullies, etc wearing uniforms.

some people attracted to power positions just should not have it, but stupid actions happen when idle hands get bored, its called being human unfortunately it catches up to you sooner or later.
Great idea from the brains on the left a hundred years ago was to have the American citizenry in the cities contract out their own individual personal safety to a third party. Works every time.
