A US drone boat conducted a first-of-its-kind rescue mission to save the crew of an American Apache helicopter that crashed near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, the military said.

The 24-foot Saronic Corsair autonomous surface vessel, powered by artificial intelligence, located the crew who had been stuck for two hours in the waters off the coast of Oman, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The unmanned autonomous vessel, capable of carrying 1,000 pounds and reaching speeds of about 40 mph, quickly transported the pilots to a safe location in the waters, where they were hoisted up by a rescue chopper, officials said.

The operation marks the first time a high-tech US Navy drone deployed to the Middle East was used to conduct a rescue mission.

The Corsair is manufactured by Texas-based Saronic Technologies and is a part of the Navy’s Task Force 59, which oversees uncrewed vessels and other drones powered by AI.

Former Navy Secretary John Phelan had praised Saronic’s work last December after they produced the fully functional Corsair just 12 months after presenting a promising prototype, with the completed version capable of sailing for more than 1,000 miles.

I am always surprised at the weapons the US has up their sleeves and we know nothing about. They only use the really good stuff when they have to. It makes for interesting speculation in how the US may have already prepared a fleet of these cheap (comparatively speaking) fast boats that will be able to neutralize the Iranians main remaining battle force in the Gulf. That leaves just drones and missiles, and our technology is improving there as well. The Iranians have no Air Force, no Navy, and their standing Army is in disarray.

Then no helos would have returned.

I didn't say that ISIS had air supremacy below 2000 ft, simply that we no longer did. The evolution of threats changed the game. Below 2000 ft both sides were using drones and couldn't stop the other side from doing so.

From the article: ...cutting-edge new drone boat...

Tesla was awarded a patent in 1898 for his remote control boat.

Talk big tough guy. When they shoot down your patrol craft with Amazon drones,
you don’t have air supremacy. Don’t forget to take your geritol and thorazine. It will help.

maybe you need to practice what you say?

O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is gracious, and his mercy endures forever. —

I’d assume the boat deploys with guns, ammo, grenades, changes of clothes, radios, food and medical supplies.

I would suppose there is direct communication between boat operator and soldier being rescued. They've probably practiced this 100 times and know all the capabilities.

Very cool and wish we knew more. It'll come out. I'm sure Pete will step to the mike...

Evidently you don’t know the meaning of air supremacy.
