The Pacifica Municipal Pier is closed indefinitely following severe, rapidly progressing structural damage that has put the future of the iconic 53-year-old landmark in jeopardy. On June 4, 2026, city engineers discovered significant cracking, separation, and displacement along the concrete walkway near the pier's abutment, forcing an immediate public safety shutdown. The Pacifica council officially declared a local emergency. Over the subsequent days, powerful ocean swells caused the primary fracture to widen to nearly a foot. The catastrophic shifting has buckled structural elements and caused the first section of the pier to tilt precariously downward into the surf.

There you go, California in one picture, they think it is an iconic 53-year-old landmark. In reality, a public works project that could not last a single lifetime.
Meh, it’s California. No concern here.

A metaphor for the entire state...
(I'm sure it's Trump's fault /s)
Maybe it can take the rest ofvthe state with it?
When I think of Ohio I feel about the samez
Definitely a metaphor
That will buff right out!
“When I think of Ohio I feel about the samez”
Great, because I couldn’t care less what you think, or even if you’re capable of thinking, (there’s room for debate on that one).
However, I didn’t post an Ohio centric story, so there’s that.
Then you won’t need to donate to that Freepathon thingy.
It’s an avatar of California. All the money gets spent on social welfare or fraud (but I repeat), very little percentage wise goes to maintaining infrastructure. Maintaining this structure over time would have had a small impact. Now total replacement is the only answer and that probably can’t happen because A: the Coastal Commission won’t allow it and B: it will be so cost prohibitive due to new standards and regulations.
The politicians prefer to steal the maintenance money now and then steal more when it fails and has to be rebuilt completely.
I call BS on that. City engineers didn't "discover" anything. The concerned visitors were calling it in.
Gone Now!
So it’s coastal California. Do we get any other clues?
Climate change. Time for the Rats to demand that people commuting to work use pogo sticks.
I froze my tail off at a 4th of July party in Pacifica back in the early 90s.
