On May 30th, a 17-year-old girl was arrested for allegedly stabbing three horses at a National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) barrel racing event in Las Vegas.
The incident, which occurred early that morning, happened at the South Point Arena & Equestrian Center during the NBHA Professional’s Choice Las Vegas Super Show.
According to police, the suspect had access to the barn where the horses were held awaiting competition, and three horses were "intentionally injured with a sharp object."
The Las Vegas Metro Police Department said in a statement, "On May 30, 2026, at approximately 2:07 a.m., LVMPD Communications received a report that a horse had been injured at a barn located in the 9700 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard. Patrol officers arrived and learned that three horses had been intentionally injured with a sharp object."
"The LVMPD Animal Cruelty Section was notified and responded to the scene. Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified a teenage girl as a possible suspect. The teen had access to the barn, and investigators believe she may have used a knife to inflict multiple injuries to the horses."
"While the injuries are not considered life-threatening, they are expected to prevent the horses from competing."
"Detectives located the teen at a nearby hotel and took her into custody without incident. She was transported to Clark County Juvenile Hall, where she was booked for 12 counts of Willful/Malicious Kill/Maim/Torture Animal – Horse and three counts of Felony Malicious Destruction of Private Property over $5K."
The injuries, while serious, one horse was stabbed six times, they do not appear to be not life-threatening. The horses received stitches, antibiotics, and are recovering, though they remain traumatized and have been sidelined from competition.
NBHA shared the following statement after the violent incident: "The 2026 NBHA Professional’s Choice Vegas Super Show, held May 29–31 at the South Point Casino in Las Vegas, experienced an isolated incident during the early morning hours of Saturday, May 30, involving the mistreatment of a limited number of equine athletes by an event competitor."
"The situation was addressed immediately in coordination with the National Barrel Horse Association, the South Point Hotel & Casino Security, Metro Police, and all appropriate parties. The individual involved has been removed and placed in the care of authorities, and there is no ongoing threat of any kind."

I said gender (not sex), which has been shown to be very relevant in today’s acts of violence.
There has to be something wrong with ‘her’. No sane person would just start stabbing horses. Being a teen, details are going to be hard to obtain. But there is more to this story, I have little doubt.
I read the individual had access to the barn. I did not see where the individual was a competitor.
Also, dont take my comment as assuming she is not white. She may very well be. Regardless, this is a sick individual. Who else would do something so cruel?

To your first point: Indeed. It could have been motivated by any number of things, all of them evil.
To your second point: I suspect that the perp is “white” largely because the whole thing is pretty much a “white thing”. Could be wrong of course. Also, while the attack is sickening (or infuriating, depending on one’s temperament) the perp isn’t “sick”. The perp is evil. We need to rediscover that word, evil. Some people know they’re doing wrong, and do it anyway.

A. Why did she have unsupervised access to these horses so close to racing time?
B. At least one of those three stabbed horses is going to be traumatized from now on, now knowing just what to expect from the random human beings moving around them.
It will be a long time before those animals forget.
C. 17 y/o or not, she needs to be identified, so other horse owners know ‘danger’ when they see her.
She should be charged as an adult, not a minor. 20 years hard time. Banned for life from rodeos or dealing in horses..................

Sounds vicious or crazy and most likely will get off instead of jailed for a good, long time. We need better laws to protect us from “children” in their teens.
