Judge awards corporations the right to vote in Delaware town

Delaware Superior Court Judge Craig Karsnitz has ruled that companies in Delaware will be able to vote in elections just like people.

This is especially wacky for Delaware.

As per the US Census Bureau, the estimated human population of Delaware is just over 1 million.

But there are over 2 million corporations headquartered in the state, which means there are far more companies in Delaware than there are people.

According to Bloomberg Law, the ruling came up because the town of Fenwick Island was already letting corporations vote in its municipal elections (they own most of the property, after all).

The ACLU thought letting companies vote as if they were human beings might drown out the real people who actually live in the city of Fenwick Island, so they sued.

Karsnitz dismissed the lawsuit from Delaware's Superior Court, citing ‘the principle of one person/entity/one vote.'

‘Visions of faceless large corporations or even HAL controlling a small town are frightening and the stuff of science fiction,' but ‘trusts, partnerships, limited liability companies, and corporations are expressly recognized as "persons" in the Delaware Code,' the judge said.

So, if corporations are expressly recognized as persons and can vote just like citizens, at least on Fenwick Island, can they also be summoned for jury duty or get called up for the draft?

Can foreign companies be denaturalized?

Well this sounds fishy, but maybe they can vote out that Trump and Elon hating judge at the Delaware Court of Chancery. She bascially ruined the whole business friendly laws that the state worked so hard to establish. But then again, this is what you get when you vote democrap.

Companies are not citizens.

Although I’m not for this, letting corporations vote on tax rates should reduce taxes.

Never underestimate the ability of judges to violate fundamental civil rights. They are the products of American Bar Association law schools that grade students for creative writing ability, not knowledge of law.

Actually, as long as a property tax is the sole funding for a locality, I think only property owners should vote in that locality’s elections. Otherwise it could certainly be possible that “residents” might outnumber property owners and essentially dictate how much revenue they are going to extract for themselves from the property owners.

This is insane. But I question that there are 2 million corporations headquartered in Delaware. How can you do that without a sizeable human footprint? If you can, that too is insane.

Delaware is the state where for fun you avoid the I-95 toll on its 20 mile stretch of road by driving around its toll booth on local roads. Or the state that you have to drive through if you feel like taking the ferry out of Cape May, NJ instead of fighting the NJ Turnpike and I-95. You can stay at its beaches (like Brandon) but you'll almost always wind up driving down to Ocean City, MD out of boredom.
