Some critiques are too easy, and that is often the case with AOC.
It tells you something awful about our elite universities that she graduated from Boston University with two degrees: one in international relations and the other in economics.
She knows nothing about either.
Being a politician whose main appeal, aside from her appealing looks, is an ability to perform to a crowd of leftists, AOC obviously couldn't pass up an invitation to speak at a Muslim Eid celebration along with Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
While I don't, in principle, object to politicians respectfully adopting traditions for the sake of their audience, there is something especially bizarre about AOC, a truly radical feminist, wearing a hijab to speak in front of a crowd that appears to be exclusively male, and largely uninterested in what she has to say.
She has unconsciously adopted the traditions of a culture that respects women even less than the one portrayed in The Handmaid's Tale—you know, that horror that Donald Trump is supposedly bringing about in the United States with the help of the docile women who surround him and the openly gay men in prominent administration positions.
All the men around her, with the exception of Mamdani himself, are dressed like the Afghan Taliban, so obviously rejecting the Western society that has welcomed them. AOC spends an inordinate amount of time condemning people who have no intention of oppressing women, but when given the chance, she embraces a crowd that is filled with people who do.
An all-male crowd, from the look of it, except for a woman who likely is either the mayor's or AOC's staffer.
One of the more bizarre things about leftists is their inverse bigotry regarding brown and black people. They so obviously expect them to behave like savages that they excuse behavior that they would never tolerate in white people. They spout out excuses, trot out claims of oppression, and claim that any bad behavior is caused by white oppression.
It's absurd. It's the same thinking that leads liberals to lower academic standards for non-whites, or for all students, to level the playing field. The assumption is that non-whites or non-Asians are naturally inferior, not that their culture is equivalent to ours.
Everybody should be held to the same high standards, and at least the majority of all groups certainly have the capacity to meet them. But only if they are held accountable. That's why Catholic schools with majority minority student bodies perform far better than public schools.
By agreeing to speak to a crowd that treats her as an inferior, and praising them as model citizens, AOC is endorsing in Muslims behavior that she decries in Westerners. This isn't respecting cultures—after all, white racists who treat women badly could make the same argument that it is their culture, and nobody finds that argument compelling.
It's setting low standards for non-whites. If that really is their culture, then it sucks, and we should say so. Because that is our culture.
This reminds me of the entirely appropriate response of General Sir Charles Napier to the tradition of burning a widow in India:
“Be it so. This burning of widows is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property. My carpenters shall therefore erect gibbets on which to hang all concerned when the widow is consumed. Let us all act according to national customs."
If something is immoral, it is immoral.
Islam and leftism have many similarities so this does not surprise me.
Uh....Boston University is not “elite”.
It is because they (the Left) are stupid.
Appears in the 2nd century BC in the apocryphal Hebrew text Book of Sirach (also called Ecclesiasticus), written around 180–175 BC. In the Greek translation (Septuagint), verse 27:9 reads πετεινὰ πρὸς τὰ ὅμοια αὐτοῖς καταλύσει, meaning “birds resort unto their like”
She is no Sister Bertrille
BU is considered elite. Maybe not by you
And I’ve thought overr the past 5 years that AOC shows us what our elite and regular as well as Ivy League colleges have been doing
As well as high schools
For the 2026–2027 academic year, Boston University’s undergraduate tuition is $73,024 per year.
They’re showing her pictures of their favorite Goats that are worth more than her
collectivist allies
“ Yes, Boston University (BU) is considered a top-tier, highly prestigious institution. It is officially ranked #42 among National Universities by U.S. News & World Report and is an elite “international powerhouse” known for its heavy-hitting research and world-class faculty. While the most traditional “Ivy Plus” schools (Harvard, MIT) hold a tier of their own, BU operates in the highly competitive echelon of universities. Its reputation has skyrocketed over the last decade, becoming incredibly selective with an acceptance rate of just 11%.”
Disagree all you want
AOC has an economics degree from this place. And she’s idiotic on economics
Eid rather not.
She is dressed exactly like “The Handmaid Tale”
Considered elite by who? Deal with academics daily. Would be hard pressed to find anyone who raves about the scholarship, research or sterling graduates that come out of Boston University. It has the reputation as a stop for rich, academically mediocre suburban kids who want to have a “college experience” in Boston.
$$$$$$$$$$$ covers a multitude of sins...........
AI.......
AOC likely got one of their DEI allocation of degrees.
It’s what they do.
Ya, the stank!
He freely admits that he wasted four years there just biding time until he started his career at one of the top computer/IT firms in the world. He said it was far more difficult to get into those schools than to stay there once you were admitted.
Personally, I never hire anyone in my STEM field from "top" universities. The graduates I've come across from those schools have less knowledge and common sense than the kids who were my high school peers.
