They give up because they “fear” they can’t make enough milk. They need to ramp up production. The tiny babies don’t need as much. I suspect many give up because it’s a hassle.

Back in the 60’s and early 70’s women were told to adhere to a srict schedule of every 4 hours to feed their babies. My baby girls all weighed either five pounds or six pounds. They really needed to feed every two hours, and had I been allowed to do so, I would have had sufficient milk. Their tiny tummiees would not hold more than two ounces anyway! Sixty years later, and they remain small women.
And feeding advice has finally wised up.
