MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A driver’s cell phone was out and recording when a fight broke out in the middle of a busy Fox Meadows intersection early Saturday night.
Kevin Coleman couldn’t believe what he was seeing in front of him. The brawl between two women and a man and a woman was blocking both lanes of traffic at Mendenhall and Knight Arnold Roads.

One of the women who was taken to the ground told police it all started when she honked her horn at a driver she thought was moving too slowly through the light.
She said a woman, later identified as Tarika Brownkeys, got out of the vehicle, approached her car, and began hitting her.
Tarika Brownkeys (SCSO) The victim said her sister jumped in to defend her, and that’s when an unknown male joined in and began hitting both of them in the face.
In the cell phone video, you can see the man and woman kicking and hitting the sisters while they are on the pavement.
“It’s really unfortunate to see violence in the city, especially men putting their hands on women,” said Coleman.
Brownkeys told officers she and her brother were pushing their disabled vehicle down Mendenhall when the sisters jumped out of their car and started to assault her.
However, investigators said they found video footage from a nearby traffic light that showed Brownkeys approach the sister’s car and begin attacking them.
Brownkeys, 24, was arrested and charged with simple assault and released on her own recognizance. Police said the male suspect fled before officers arrived on the scene.
In Coleman’s video, you can also see a man step out of a car with a handgun and then reach inside his vehicle for a rifle just as the fight is ending.
Indeed it was...in spades. This was in August and it was shall we say somewhat steamy but your impression was exactly mine too. This was a few years before Katrina hit as well.
And does everyone BUT me like the roundabouts or traffic circles? Cities say they are cheaper for the city budgets than stoplights.
If your honk is successful, you get to your destination a minute earlier.
Otherwise, any bad thing could happen.

Exactly. Why take the risk? Not polite to blow horn impatiently, anyway.

Forget it Jake, it’s Memphis.

Ernest Hemingway said “The most essential gift for a good writer is a built-in, shockproof, shit detector.”
I have a very close friend who lived in NOLA during Katrina. Her story is totally incredible and we, her friends, are very fortunate that she was able to get out of there and survive.
In October 2019, she invited us to go there for a visit. Even though she moved away as soon as she could after Katrina, she maintained her old home there, and rented out half of it to help pay her bills.
I’ve been to NOLA probably a half dozen times before that trip. Maybe even a dozen times. At any rate, I saw it through new eyes…her eyes.
It’s a very special place.
You are reminding me that hubby and I should go again (we did as college students) and take in the sights, one more time, for old times’ sake. I’ll put it on the list of places to visit (or revisit, as the case may be.)
You need to carry bear spray.
A seperate species of homonid.
Genetically incompatible with most homo sapien species.
We do not have a race problem, we have an incompatible species problem.
Their packs routinely attack others, just as in the wild.
It was the Ghettopotomus bop!
I do. Ten foot spray.
Chicago, LA, Seattle, Denver, Portland...they were all very different 55 years ago.

Couldn’t you stop doing drugs, Rodney?
Yes, they all were different. Everything was different back then. Mostly in a good way.
The Chesterton fans and the Lewis fans really get into heated arguments ...
Traffic circles replacing traffic lights have greatly improved flow in the unincorporated "town" nearest me. The lights were never timed quite right ... circles just flow. Even toothless hillbilly rednecks can figure them out.
The last time I was in Memphis was in the late 90’s or in 2000.
My sister and I were staying in Tunica at a hotel in a casino. The casino gave us tickets the Rod Stewart concert at the Pyramid in Memphis and sent us to the concert in a limousine.
We shared the limo ride with the son of an Alabama congressman. Nice boy but he was clearly high as a kite, lol.
Anyway, as soon as we entered Memphis, the limo driver locked all of the doors. He explained that he felt it was safer to have the doors locked due to the crime in Memphis.
Needless to say, we went nowhere except to the concert then back to the hotel/casino.
The congressman’s son asked to be let out at Beale Street. I hope nothing happened to him, because he was clearly in no condition to defend himself.
It’s Memphis, so it’s not much of a guess.
