Some New Yorkers demand $800K each in reparations as state commission holds hearing

Some Black New Yorkers are demanding cash reparations from the government as state officials consider some form of compensation for slavery or other past racial injustices.

“We need $800,000 for each foundation of Black Americans. That’s simple,” Aubrey Muhammud told Fox News Digital. “That’s — in New York — that’s about the cost of living that’ll get you a home or a small business or for you to recover from any financial duress.”

The New York State Community Commission on Reparations Remedies held a public hearing last Saturday. The hearing followed up on when Gov. Kathy Hochul in 2023 signed a bill for a “community commission to study the history of slavery in New York state” to examine “various forms of reparations.”

The Empire State joins several other states and local municipalities looking to issue reparations in some form, compensating Black residents for slavery or other instances of racial injustice. A Chicago suburb — Evanston, Illinois — went as far as paying $25,000 in cash to Black residents to address past racial housing discrimination through its program.

“Certainly grateful that you all came up here today to enjoy and participate and lend your voice to this public hearing. Our theme today is truth before repair,” commissioner Seanelle Hawkins told the audience.

As the state considers reparations to Black Americans or any other group in some form, some advocates of reparations spoke up about the importance of the identity of foundational Black Americans to be recognized.

The only reparations NY owes would be to the Irish, who they kicked out of their homes through eminent domain and built a bunch of municipal buildings in the lower east side.

Black Africans were sold to slave traders by their own people. More white Americans died in the Civil war than any other war. I think that Northern white folk should be paid reparations by the African race. So there!!!!!!!!!!

“The Union soldiers paid any debt owed in blood.”

Doing what?

Union soldiers took an oath to protect and defend the pro-slavery U.S. Constitution.

The U.S. actually clung to slavery three years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

“Today, the combined government spending on these programs costs roughly $1 trillion annually.”

One president had a name for them: “Welfare Queens”.

“Did New York have slavery? I missed have missed that chapter in the history books.”

The slave states were New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Delaware, Maryland, and Rhode Island.

Also, North and South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia - don't ever forget to cast 4/13ths responsibility in that direction.

You need a swift kick in the balls, and a punch in the nose. It's that simple.

It is the only chance these crooked politicians have to hold on to power. They will call buying their votes reparations.

Its patently obviously that no one is getting a reparations check for something that happened 160+ years ago, but they stirred up all sorts of expectations.

Wikipedia.com - "List of last survivors of American slavery"
Peter Mills (October 26, 1861 – September 22, 1972) was the last known verified[by whom?] surviving American man born into legal slavery: he died in 1972 aged 110.[1][dubious – discuss]

Mills was born in Prince George's County, Maryland on October 26, 1861. After the Civil War, he worked on his father's farm every day during the week before leaving to work in Baltimore and Washington, DC where he dug sewers, was a bricklayer and plasterer and played baseball in his spare time. Mills eventually moved to Pittsburgh after first visiting in 1881. Mills was killed by a driver in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 22, 1972. He outlived his five wives.[2][3][4]

Democrats pols in places like NY holding public “reparations” hearings is how they gin-up and agitate a certain class of stupid blacks, and keep them on the plantation

How many slaves were quartered in NYS just prior to the Civil War?

Give each verifiable NY slave the $800M. Then split it between all of their descendants evenly, all the way down the chain.

The UK just crossed the Rubicon, from last month...

UK now spends more on welfare than it earns in income tax — is America heading the same way?

It wasn’t stupid, at all.

The call for reparations is the perfect creation to perpetuate an imaginary injustice.

It will never happen, they’ll feel cheated, and thus vote democrat.

Ironically, President Lincoln actually did establish grants for freed slaves where they would get 40 acres and a surplus mule from the army. The land was carved out of plantations.

The program came to a screeching halt when a Democrat shot Lincoln in the head and the new president didn’t like the idea.

Will this precedent apply to each succeeding generation? Is this a one-time thing or will each generation of black folks get to make a claim?
