TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — A 79-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a 1975 cold case.
According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, Carol Ann Beall, 79, was arrested on May 28. PCSD Homicide and Cold Case Unit detectives located the woman in the 7800 block of N. Starr Grass Drive. She faces a first-degree murder charge in the 1975 death of 73-year-old William Reginald Sipfle.
Play Video Carol Ann Beall, 79, has been arrested and charged in connection with a 1975 cold case. The victim was identified as 73-year-old William Reginald Sipfle.
In October 1975, a man contacted deputies after he discovered human remains at the Pima County Waste Transfer Station. Detectives collected evidence but could not identify the remains found at the scene. Investigators determined the human remains belonged to a man.
The case went cold after an extensive follow-up with no new leads.
In 2025, PCSD partnered with a company specializing in forensic genealogy to help identify the human remains. Evidence was submitted for advanced DNA testing and genealogical analysis, the department said.
"DNA efforts led investigators to identify the granddaughter of the deceased," PCSD said. "She stated her grandfather had gone missing in 1975, though no missing person report had been filed."
From that information, detectives developed a new lead that positively identified the victim at Sipfle.
Beall, who appears to be the victim's stepdaughter, was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex, PCSD said.

She was 28 or so in 1975.
What sentence can make up for her murdering that man, then getting to live freely these past 51 years?
“She stated her grandfather had gone missing in 1975, though no missing person report had been filed.”
Damn, I thought I was a procrastinator.
What you said AND what an incredible beauty.
Did she frighten someonne to death?
She lived with the knowledge of her crime, and I assume some level of guilt and always wondering if/when she'd get busted. If she has any conscience that is.
The article doesn't say whether she has family, whether she's in decent health, etc. etc. But now at 79, assuming she's convicted, she'll get three hots and a cot for the rest of her life. She probably sees it as a mixed blessing.
“..And I would have gotten away with it too,
if it wasn’t for all you miserable, meddling Geneticists!!”
Asian.
“What sentence can make up for her murdering that man, then getting to live freely these past 51 years?”
There isn’t any. Since capital punishment was resumed in 1976, only 41 people in Arizona convicted of murder have been executed at Florence State Prison in Florence, Arizona.
13-751 - Sentence of death or life imprisonment
G. The trier of fact shall consider as mitigating circumstances any factors proffered by the defendant or the state that are relevant in determining whether to impose a sentence less than death, including any aspect of the defendant’s character, propensities or record and any of the circumstances of the offense, including but not limited to the following:
(5) The defendants age.

So the legislature has given the courts the tools to overrule the death penalty and create a life, what’s left of it, sentence.

Lawyer: Your honor this is a blatant rush to judgment.
How they ever gonna prove it?
God will be the ultimate judge!
Second oldest - age 77 - 2005 - Murdered a federal judge with a pipe bomb.
We’re big fans of the show, “Bloodline Detectives”, which is all about forensic genetic genealogy. So interesting. It’s hosted and narrated by Nancy Grace, which is a little off-putting, but the stories are good.
If she isn’t saved, her punishment is coming up. Eternity, in hell is an awful thing.How3ver, God can forgive even murderers. Hopefully , she’ll give her life over to God before it’s too late
LOL! Bout spit my coffee on that one
Hmmm, not sure where i “condemned” her?
If she is guilty, she will be punoshed IF she doesnt repent. If she isnt guilty, she has nothing to worry about concerning God judg8ng her (though a jury may falsely find her guilty- hope 5hatmisnt the case IF she ia injocent. IF however she is guilty, God stznds ready to accept her if she reaches out to him, bu5 shell s5ill have to pay the p4ice on earth, just not for eternity if she gets sav3d).
Unless she confesses, this will be a hard case to prove in court. She might just say that someone else in the family killed him because he was a child molester, if she says anything at all.
