Here is a short very good video of Dr. Jordan Peterson talking about how if a person has an IQ of 83, there is nothing that they can do to benefit modern society. They have to be taken cared of.

I would 100% disagree with this statement.

Perhaps it may be difficult to have an overall FINANCIALLY positive contribution to society but "nothing they can do to benefit modern society" is completely out of line.

It seems that Peterson thinks you can quantify a persons benefit to society. Lets give him the benefit of the doubt and say he only means economically benefit. Let's call the "economic benefit" that a person produces and consumes "economic resource units".

If they need 100 "economic resource units" to survive but only generate 50 "economic resource units" of output, they are definitely using more than they are consuming but their output is not zero. It is not "nothing". Things like minimum wage laws, regulations and red tape make lower IQ individuals harder to employ and drives that potential of 50 "economic resource units" of output to society down to zero.

Additionally, there are many, many athletes and performers who have lower than 83 IQ. They are finding a way to generate more "economic resource units" than they consume.

Now to move on to the fact that a person can benefit society in more ways than just economically.

A lower IQ person who was raised right, taught to fear God and to respect their neighbors, can be an incredible asset in terms of friendship, companionship, love, tolerance, etc...These things can't be quantified but are none the less tremendous benefits to society.
