'The Godfather' Returns in 2027 With the Untold Rise of Connie Corleone

The Corleone saga shifts to Connie as author Adriana Trigiani and Paramount revive 'The Godfather' with a new novel and film adaptation.

More than three decades after the final installment of The Godfather trilogy hit theaters, the Corleone family is officially returning with a new chapter — and this time, the story belongs to the daughter, Connie Corleone.

According to The Associated Press, Random House announced that bestselling author Adriana Trigiani will write Connie, a new novel authorized by the estate of Mario Puzo, with a planned release set for fall 2027. Paramount Pictures is also developing a new film adaptation tied to the project, extending one of Hollywood’s most influential crime sagas into a new era.

The upcoming novel will focus on Connie Corleone, the overlooked but pivotal daughter of Don Vito Corleone, originally portrayed by Talia Shire in all three films. According to Random House, the book marks the first Godfather novel written by a woman and only the third officially approved continuation from the Puzo estate.

Paramount currently controls the screen rights to the franchise following a long-running legal battle between the studio and Puzo’s estate over ownership of the Corleone characters.

The return of The Godfather arrives more than 55 years after the original novel changed crime fiction forever. First published in 1969, the book introduced mainstream audiences to terms such as “consigliere” and “Cosa Nostra” while helping to redefine the gangster genre in American pop culture.

The 1972 film adaptation directed by Francis Ford Coppola went on to become one of the most celebrated movies ever made, winning Best Picture and helping launch the careers of stars including Al Pacino and Marlon Brando.

Trigiani said the new novel will explore Connie’s rise in a world dominated by powerful men. “Connie is a novel about how a woman works to forge her own way in a world that’s already decided who she is,” she said in a statement.

She added that underestimating Connie Corleone would prove just as dangerous as underestimating Vito or Michael Corleone. Anthony Puzo, Mario Puzo’s son and executor of the estate, said the family specifically sought out Trigiani after reading an essay she wrote about the women of the Corleone universe and how little attention they had received over the years.

The project also revives a franchise that has remained culturally dominant long after the release of The Godfather Part III in 1990. The original trilogy earned nine Academy Awards and more than $400 million worldwide while influencing generations of filmmakers, television writers, rappers, and crime dramas.

The films have also remained staples in music and sports culture, referenced everywhere from The Sopranos to hip-hop lyrics to modern meme culture.

No one loves GF1 & 2 than I do. I wanted 3 to be good, but it sucked so very very badly. Now in this world of all male “bosses,” they’re going to bring in a girl boss. I just don’t see how it can be pulled off successfully

“No clue“

When you think about it a ‘Big Vally” aged Barbra Stanwyck could phone it in…all 95 pounds of her.

The Sopranos took the mafia thing so much further that another Godfather movie would be pointless. The Lady Boss bit doesn’t change that.

There might be some remaining interesting material to create a good film. Connie had children with Carlo Rizzi who was murdered by Michael Corleone. Connie was portrayed as not the best of mothers. The audience never met her oldest son who was once arrested in Reno for some petty crime. How did he grow up? Does he blame his mother and the Corleone family for the death of his father? What about Sonny’s kids? Does Rocco Lampone grow old and senile and start telling these kids the family secrets and history. Hopefully the Puzo estate does not allow some politically correct , fairy tale to be written.

I am quite sure it will end up another woke disaster. Hollywood has to spoil it with wokeness in order to qualify it for awards. It will be a way to destroy the greatness of the original as they always do.

Bound to be a flop if it is as badly researched as this whopper. Here's what Brando had already been nominated for or had won BEFORE The Godfather:

24th Academy Awards: Best Actor/Leading Role, nomination,
A Streetcar Named Desire (1951)

25th Academy Awards: Best Actor/Leading Role, nomination,
Viva Zapata!(1952)

26th Academy Awards: Best Actor/Leading Role, nomination,
Julius Caesar (1953)

27th Academy Awards: Best Actor/Leading Role, win,
On the Waterfront (1954)

30th Academy Awards: Best Actor/Leading Role, nomination,
Sayonara (1957)

Your post is spot-on.

The only “strong” Connie we ever see is in III, where she poisons the Cannoli fed to Tuco, erm, Osvaldo Altobello. In the original and II, she’s a loser.

We will likely get a revisionist Connie, who orders the hit Carlo, shoots Fredo in the boat, and saves Mary Corleone from the assassin’s bullet.
