TRINIDAD, Texas - A Facebook post about problems with the city of Trinidad's water quality led to the arrest of a resident, who now says she's filed a lawsuit against the city for what she calls a "political retaliation" arrest.
What we know:
Police in the City of Trinidad, located in Henderson County around an hour south-east of Dallas, arrested Jennifer Combs on May 8 and charged her with felony false alarm or report.
Her arrest stems from a Facebook post she made on her ‘Southern Belle Watch' account, where she claimed that the city's water issues had led to hospitalizations due to bacteria.
The post, in part, reads:
"We have received reports that some citizens have been hospitalized due to bacteria in the water. This is a serious public health concern that deserves immediate attention. If your water looks discolored, contains sediment, has a strong odor, or you have experienced related health issues, please send us a message. We are gathering information and reporting findings to the state."
The Trinidad Police Department, in an Apr. 6 Facebook post of their own, said Combs wrote "false information that creates fear, panic, or unnecessary emergency response within a community."
A May 10 post from Trinidad Police Chief Charles Gregory doubled down on the decision to arrest Combs.
Gregory claimed the case was "cut and dry," and Combs' claims about hospitalizations "are simply false and have only caused unnecessary fear and confusion in our community."

Trinidad Police Chief Charles Gregory needs a good thrashing.
Instead of responding to the charges, the city launches a heavy handed cover up. This certainly lends some credibility to her report.
There’s two sides to every story. This side is getting the publicity first.
Include her right to free speech.
“If your water looks discolored, contains sediment, has a strong odor”. Have to be awful thirsty to drink that.
First order of business for the city is to fire its attorney. Then figure out who else to let go to cover the settlement costs.
All she said is that she received reports and people who have concerns should report problems.
I thought all Texans drink their water from a muddy huff print.
Sounds like she has a case to me, from what I read what has been posted.
She couldn’t pay for better “Banned In Boston!!” style publicity. Was a complete unknown until now.
"If I EVER meet a Texan who ain't drunk water from a muddy hoof print, I'll shake his hand or buy him a Jack Webster cigar!" - R.C.
Only Mulder and Scully know the truth...
Start with this: How’s the water?
I’d normally say that this is the type of thing that happens in Third World countries like Trinidad but these days, it easily could happen in the UK, other European countries or even some parts of the US.
There’s two sides to every story. This side is getting the publicity first.

I agree with that. I am a cynical basterd. I never trust that you are getting the whole story, even when you have heard from multiple sources/sides.
However, if you can’t even ask people to report problems with a product or service without getting arrested, something isn’t right. This wasn’t an outright accusation or declaration.
The balance is, not to cause “a panic” but does that mean any time something could be wrong with anything (public or private) should we all be kept in the dark until public officials declare it safe for “knowing”????
No, that leads to huff and mouf disease.
I have received reports that there is a fire in the theater...
