It's a clever (if deceptive) content creation strategy that has become quite widespread.

Now imagine they start face timing you as your kid away at school. Asking to bail them out of jail.
AI detectors will be big business.
With stuff like this, Joe Biden might still be president — sharp as a tack and everything.

Typically, just the live ones. For non-live content, it’s easier just to instruct your AI of choice to do it. If you have a base video, then it gets simpler.

As usual, the hair texture and movement is the giveaway that it’s fake as well as the uniformity of the skin. Then there is the light off the clothing textures.

As you might know, that’s already being done with voices. A scammer captures a clip of someone’s voice, and feeds it into an app.
The app can now make new sentences in that voice.
As a side point, I don’t know why the federal government isn’t raining hell down on this scammers. There are scam-baiters on YouTube who do a pretty good job of disrupting scammers. Call-flooding, etc.
Imagine what the federal government could do.
I don’t really understand much about this.
But I know advertising companies used to pay for labs to have people sit and look at ads and then the computers analyze where the eyes looked, for how long and with what expression.
