I don’t see anything excessive or unsportsmanlike about that.

Not sure I see how this hand gesture would be disqualifying...
But if he had his hands full like during practice...this wouldnt happen.

From the article:
"Brown, who has reportedly signed a track scholarship with NC State, had earlier set a state record in the 300m hurdles. It is claimed that he received a warning for celebrating following that race and that teams were warned not to taunt their rivals ahead of the 4x400m hurdles."He was warned; he did it anyway. Classic FAFO.

Good. We need to take every opportunity to emphasize the REQUIREMENT to practice good, respectful decorum in public society. That lesson has pretty much been lost across one particular subculture.
We can do better and we must demand that it be so.

I have officiated track including each of the relay zones and the relay finish. I’ve disqualified one team when the anchor tossed the baton up in the air before the finish line to catch it on the other side. We looked at the video to make sure that he didn’t carry the stick across the line. Coach did some extra instruction for his relay teams.
No, I would not have called foul for the “celebration” as long as he kept his lane and held onto the stick.

I side with the judge. Hope it proves to be a good lesson for them. Got to play by the rules.

He did it as he crossed the finish line. It was a simple gesture. That's wrong to disqualify him for that.
To: dennisw
Maybe if he would have kept his hand pointed forward instead of giving the five to his competitors… I guess you could consider that taunting his fellow athletes.
