A Wisconsin stepmother accused of starving and imprisoning her 14-year-old autistic stepdaughter until she weighed just 35 pounds entered a no contest plea to multiple felony charges in the shocking child abuse case.
Melissa Goodman, 52, appeared by video from jail in a wheelchair and pleaded no contest to chronic neglect causing great bodily harm, chronic neglect causing emotional damage and false imprisonment.
She faces up to 46 years in prison when she is sentenced on July 1.
According to a criminal complaint, the teenager was found in critical condition on August 21, 2025, after her father, Walter Goodman, called 911 and reported that she had not eaten in four to five days and was lethargic, vomiting and nearly comatose.
When officers arrived at the family's 'house of horrors' in Oneida, Wisconsin, they found the 14-year-old weighing just 35lbs. Her bones were visibly protruding and police initially mistook her for a child half her age.
She was rushed to the hospital suffering from severe malnutrition and life-threatening complications including untreated diabetes, acute respiratory failure, cardiac dysfunction, severe hepatitis, pancreatitis, hypothermia and hypoglycemia, according to the complaint.
Nurses said the teen also had pressure sores and a massive bruise on her forehead, and required feeding tubes before she was able to eat on her own.
Prosecutors alleged she had been locked in her bedroom for years, deprived of food and water, forced to sleep on the floor without a mattress and monitored by surveillance cameras.

There should be exceptions to the 8th amendment.
When they send her to Taycheedah womens Correctional facuility in Fond du Lac they need to place her on a restricted diet for 20 or 30 years. No more potato chips, no more soda and cheetos.
Obese gluttons are some of the most depraved people on Earth, as much or even more so than sexual deviants.
So she never has admitted guilt. DA should have taken it to trial.
From the pictures in the article it is obvious where all of the food went.
I would say that an appropriate punishment would be to lock them in a room and starve them but it would take years.

This creature looks like an adult human, but how can these actions be ascribed to any mammal we have seen in a wild life show?
My idea has always been, make the punishment so common, so ordinary and everyday that it is no longer “unusual.”
Great scene which didn’t end in torture, sadly for me, in the Boston Marathon movie “Patriot’s Day” with Mark Wahlberg, had the hijab wearing sullen and selfish Muslim wife of the bomber being held for questioning as minutes counted in finding more bombs and people who would be new victims (such as a police officer in his parked patrol car who would be ambushed soon after).
Word from either the FBI or CIA went out to police: “Do NOT Mirandize her.”)
American agent (woman who wore a hijab and spoke Arabic to the suspect) demanded “Are there more bombs?”
Muslim: “I won’t tell the infidels anything. I want a lawyer. I have rights here.”
Interrogator: “You don’t have s@#t.”
Sadly, they didn’t torture her and save lives. The coda of the film said authorities couldn’t prove her crimes in court and she is still not in prison.
Later the two Tzarnaev brothers threw lit pipe bombs that exploded three police cars with officers nearby shooting and
carjacked a Chinese college student they held at gunpoint and forced him to give his ATM PIN number. Student later pushed the car door open and ran away before they shot him.
Nothing but vegetables and water.

For all victims including little kids raped and tortured and cases like this one, asking “love thy neighbor” and “show mercy” and “forgive” when monsters are lurking is too much for me.
I wish I could convince myself otherwise.
When a little child is abused and the religious types push forgiveness it reminds me of asking them to be like the children who cut themselves or burn themselves (”self harm”) if they lower themselves so much they must forgive the monsters who hurt them.
I believe in revenge.
