Royal Navy sends warship to Middle East to protect tankers when Strait of Hormuz reopens

HMS Dragon, a Type-45 destroyer, is sailing from the eastern Mediterranean, where it was originally sent to safeguard British military bases from Iranian drone strikes.

The ship, which has been undergoing weapons testing off Crete, will join a future 'defensive and independent' mission jointly led by the UK and France – once the Iran war ends.

A defence source said: 'Dragon is a highly capable warship, so naturally she is likely to be part of our UK contribution to restoring confidence for global trade through the Strait.'

The destroyer, which has a 285-strong crew and is equipped with the Sea Viper guided missile air defence system, was deployed to Cyprus after RAF Akrotiri was hit by an Iranian-made drone on the second day of the war.

However, it took three weeks to arrive. And last month it had to return to port for maintenance amid reports its fresh water system had broken down.

Why would a warship be needed in the Gulf if the war is over?

Sensing a theme here, whether in the Ukraine/Russia conflict or in this Iran/US conflict.... Those mighty Brits and courageous French and some others are really “once the Iran war ends” kind of warriors.

What in the name of is wrong with these people. Once the Strait is open, why would any ship need protecting?

Rule Britannia. Britannia rule the waves.

🙄

What are they going to do? With one boat.

This is their feeble effort to stop the closure of American bases in England. Won’t work. USA needs to buy Greenland and put our bases there.

And buy Diego Garcia, ditto.

The Euros don’t “win wars”; they focus on “winning the peace”, Less incoming fire that way.

Will the ship make it there or have to be towed home?

Will the ship sent to tow it home have to be towed home?

How long before they run out of ships?

---- "The Euros don’t 'win wars'....."

Given the German and Austrian National Socialists and Italian Fascists and the French Vichy in the last century they sure didn't.

” the French Vichy in the last century they sure didn’t.”

Gotta love the French. Look at it this way. The French were slick by having a government on both sides. That way no matter who won they were gonna end up on the winning side.

Do us a favor and read the article before posting on it.

The Saudis just opened up a new pipeline from Iraq to Yanbu, S.A., which bypasses the Strait of Hormuz. It is currently scheduled for 4 Million barrels a day, and Phase II will be completed in 12 -18 months at 16 Million barrels a day. This will effectively eliminate Iran’s strategic hold on the Strait of Hormuz for Oil transport. It is significant because Trump is meeting with Xi of China next week. China has been forced to support Iran because they rely on 40% of their oil from them. However, now the Saudis and Venezuela will be able to produce China’s needs around the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. The 50 year stranglehold will be broken. None of the Main Stream Media has picked up on this because it does not fit their anti-Trump rhetoric. So, His negotiations with Iran have been sort of a reverse HUDNA on them....Xi and Trump will have some interesting discussions, for sure.

What a miserable thought that is! Being transferred from England to Greenland would be pretty miserable.

The two main bases still remaining are RAF Lakenheath (fighters), and RAF Mildenhall (cargo). They're located only about 6 miles from one another in Suffolk. In addition to the quaint little villages they're named after, there are wonderful nearby towns of Bury St. Edmunds, Cambridge, and Norwich.

Admittedly, I haven't been there in a long time so they may not be very nice anymore, especially Cambridge, but still a LOT better than Greenland.

Starmer’s regime actually found a boat that could float — that did not have illegals on board?

Maintenance, mate. Sometimes, when a fellow fixes something he has to make sure it stays fixed.
