Dwayne Johnson rocked a black mohair tailcoat and a bow tie paired with a matching pleated skirt as he walked down the 2026 Met Gala red carpet hand-in-hand with his wife, Lauren Hashian. When asked about the look, which was custom-made by designer Thom Browne, Johnson said it was in part inspired by Polynesian culture, in which the “most masculine men” wear skirts. The tailcoat featured over 350 meters of hand-pleated silk ribbons in a “skeletal composition,” according to the designer.

Thank you! I read the article (shocking, I know!) and scrolled through the comments. Seemingly no one else actually went and looked at the picture. Unusual take on a tux, but I don’t find this strange or inappropriate in any way.
I loathe this event. These simpletons have no idea that they collectively come across like the ultra decadent residents of the capital in the Hunger Games. But the Rock’s outfit doesn’t signal that decadence

Did Gorgeous George speak in metered rhymes: “I float like a butterfy, sting like a bee. I’m the latest, I’m the greatest Mohammed Ali!” That’s black privilege right there. Rocky Graciano and Jack Dempsey couldn’t get away with that.

The most outrageous part about this story is that a pro-wrester is going to the Met Gala. That is sad. Recently, I have been watching interviews on YouTube of 1980s wrestlers - King Kong Bundy, Greg Valentine and Bobby Heenan did a fair number of interviews. What comes across is how little most of them made and how normal they were. They hunted, fished, got into bar fights. They slept on each other’s couches. They practiced in makeshift rings in someone’s backyard. They took the bus to ride the circuit. Vince screwed them out of a thousand dollars here and there. It wasn’t until the 1990s when they started making real money and even then, it was only a couple of them who did. I think they’d rather die than go to the Met Gala in a skirt.
In high school you could see the playground, mini-skirts were much shorter than media and modern images let on.
His logic just takes your breath away.
They’re supposedly Scottish, the sort that Carie Grant dropped from the second floor in the opening fight scene of Gunga Din. Cultural appropriation. Have someone drop that man from the second floor immediately!
