The two service members were reported missing Saturday near the Cap Draa Training Area by Tan Tan, a city in southwestern Morocco, according to Africom.

U.S. and Moroccan forces have completed search and rescue operations on the ground, in the air, and using maritime assets.

The two service members were participating in African Lion, Africom’s largest annual joint exercise, designed to “strengthen interoperability” among U.S. forces, NATO allies, and African partner nations, according to the Army.

The exercise is hosted by Morocco, Ghana, Senegal, and Tunisia.

Morocco is popular for hippies escaping the West. Became the subject of much Beat Generation lore…Kerouac, Ginsberg, et al.

In all seriousness, prayers for the missing troops.

That song was why Graham left The Hollies, he wanted to record it with them, but the rest of them hated it.

They were last seen near the ocean cliffs and they may have fallen into the ocean.

I loved that song.

The Hollies were a great group, although I didn’t notice it at the time. I didn’t pay attention to which group did which song. In hindsight though, they were an innovative group that didn’t get tied down into doing the same song over and over. I guess Graham Nash was the reason, not sure.

I hope these guys make it home.

Of note: We have no business in Morocco.

Unless I missed it, the article doesn’t say if either missing person was female.

I mention that because more than one Western female has gone hiking in such areas, only to be attacked or worse.

Even in the “moderate” Muslim countries, the veneer of civilization is thin.

🙁

A couple of babes went there to show the world that there’s nothing to fear from Muslims. One guess on how it ended for them.

...and to be honest, I’m not even sure Islam had anything to do with them - they were in a super-conservative tribal region that likely pre-dates Islam - dressing like European chicks used to be allowed to dress during summer.

Idiots.

I’m old enough to remember this wonderfully funny movie: Road to Morocco.

“Road to Morocco is a 1942 American comedy film starring Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour, and featuring Anthony Quinn and Dona Drake. Written by Frank Butler and Don Hartman and directed by David Butler, it’s the third of the “Road to ...” films. It was preceded by Road to Zanzibar (1941) and followed by Road to Utopia (1946). The story is about two fast-talking guys cast away on a desert shore and sold into slavery to a princess. In 1996, Road to Morocco was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
