Now that we can look at QAnon from a distance what did it turn out to be? I thought some of it's posts were legit just because I believed underhanded stunts were commonplace by the dims and the media. Especially after the lawfare against Trump and the pseudo press coverage of biden.
Now it seems like QAnon was just trying to sow chaos among us conservatives. It's referred to like a joke or some manner of failed attempt to do whatever.

It was always QAnon until that term became taboo so then the same people just said “Q” and claimed there was never a QAnon.
Some of the same people who now deny and argue there was ever a QAnon can be seen as regular participants on these threads.

I don’t know, bluescape. I’ve asked myself the same question many times. I followed Qanon and accepted that it was legitimate for a time, even though I was skeptical of some of its more outrageous claims. There was enough truth mixed in that I didn’t think it could totally be dismissed.
Of course, some of the “proofs” were absurd but there were some that indicated Qanon had some direct inside knowledge of and connection with the administration. I stopped taking it seriously after the stolen 2020 election. By now, anyone who still looks to Qanon’s predictions to help them analyze the news or predict future events is basing their belief on blind faith, not logic. Too many failed predictions have gone by to take Qanon’s word as gospel. Add to that the fact that there has been nary a post from Qanon since Trump has gotten back into office. Perhaps that itself is a clue to Qanon’s identity.
Having said all that, we’re still left with the question of who Qanon was, and no closer to answer.
The separate question of what effect Qanon had on the conservative and/or MAGA movement, is also hard to answer. I think a reasonable argument can be made that initially, it had a positive effect. It helped expose a large number of people to the idea and concept of The Deep State and helped encourage a healthy skepticism of “the official story” fed to us by media and government. But that ended up giving way to a belief among many of its followers, that the official explanation or the obvious explanation had to be wrong. It led to an increase in the absurd conspiracy theories we see infecting the right today with the likes of Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson, etc., and helped to bring antisemitism into the the main stream in some quarters of the right.
While never overtly embracing antisemitism, Qanon sent mixed signals about Israel and Jews in general. BTW, I’m not saying Israel or individual Jews should be immune from criticism, on the merits. But the resurgence of an unthinking “Blame Israel” or “Blame the Jews” mentality for every problem is a development in the wrong direction and one that Qanon, perhaps inadvertently, encouraged.
My opinion is that Q was propaganda to get everyone to “Sit back, relax, everything will be OK. No need to take up arms about anything.”
Were they the ones who thought JFK Jr. was coming back?
