Are you ready for your car to decide if you’re fit to drive? If not, you’d better buckle up.
A federal mandate declares new vehicles must have in-car surveillance for 2027 models onward that can decide if a person is fit to drive and can make the car inoperable via a so-called “kill switch.”
And don’t count on brushing your teeth or gargling with Listerine to work around the driver monitor if you’ve had one too many.
Most new cars won’t make the determination via breathalyzer, but infrared cameras continually monitoring potential impairment cues.
They include pupil size, head movements, eye movements and various behaviors consistent with a driver being out of it.
Such measures are sounding very loud alarm bells with privacy campaigners.
“This is invading every driver’s privacy, taking information, deciding if you’re drunk” without having all the evidence. “Then you get in the car and can’t start it,” Lauren Fix, an automotive expert who founded “Car Coach Reports,” told The Post.
The statute for the new system was buried in the 2021 Infrastructure Act, passed by the Biden administration, which aimed to increase road, bridge and airport safety.
“Originally, it was designed by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, a good group that doesn’t want anyone driving drunk. Nobody wants people driving drunk,” Fix noted.

Big Brother is watching you!...........😯
The new cars will know if you’re drunk or high. They will not start if your heart beat or your actions aren’t normal. Think I’m crazy? Look it up.
Why Americans will put up with this is pretty discouraging to think about. If you yawn while you are driving then there is a good chance your engine will just shut down and you will be instantly reported. One way to fight it is to refuse to buy a new car with this system installed.
Never happen. Just more fear.
Just don’t buy them. Let the dealers and Detroit sit on them, just like the EVs.
Pre 2010 Toyota Corollas will outlive you if maintained lightly. Roll up windows. Key entry and ignition. A/C. No frills or electronics. Your local garage mechanic can work on them. Cheap spare parts.
I’ve already decided several years ago to buy used cars in certain year ranges. Because of what they did to the engines, and now this is a second rreson.
No doubt can be calibrated to detect if you are thirsty.
I am confident that within 48 hours of the first vehicle with a kill switch rolling off an assembly line, there are at least a dozen auto mechanics within ten miles of me — all of whom look like someone out of the cast of “Dukes of Hazzard” — who will figure out how to disable it without a trace.

The goal of the left is to have everyone (except the ruling elite) drive the same car which will be monitored and controlled. They will be able to divert your car to a police station, stop it, slow it down and block it from certain routes. They will bill you per mile driven and prevent it from starting if you don’t pay.
The private car is the symbol of independence and autonomy. They hate that.
,,, and even more lawyers filing lawsuits for this sort of scenario -

Has go like the stupid stop start
There is a video on X showing a scenario of two people getting in a car because a storm and tornado is headed their way. The car will not start and its computer says, “You seem to be agitated so you aren’t in any shape to drive”.
Can you imagine how often a car would not start for a frazzled Mom or Dad headed to an emergency involving their child?

I fully agree with the grim picture you present. I would add that the same lot want to do away with cash.
Eyeglass and sun glass lenses will block IR, yes?
Exactly. Good luck producing cars Americans just won’t buy.
