WATCH: American Hockey Fans Deliver Full-Throated Rendition of Canadian National AnthemWATCH: American Hockey Fans Deliver Full-Throated Rendition of Canadian National Anthem (BARF ALERT)

When the national anthem singer at Tuesday’s Buffalo Sabres game had microphone issues, the crowd helped her out by singing along.

The moment came as the Sabres hosted the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night at the KeyBank Center. Prior to puck drop, singer Cami Clune was chosen to do the honors of singing “O Canada.”

As noted in a report from The New York Times, Sabres home games include both the Canadian and American national anthems, due to the city being so close to the border. At other U.S. venues, the Canadian anthem is only included when a Canadian team is the visitor.

Just seconds into her performance, however, Clune’s mic started to malfunction. During the brief moment of silence from the PA system, the crowd quickly jumped in and began singing the anthem. Clune’s audio briefly returned before cutting out once again. This time, she was undeterred and continued singing with the rest of the crowd. Throughout the rest of the performance, the mic issues persisted. Fortunately for Clune, the Buffalo fans — who have surely heard the Canadian anthem countless times — sang it all the way through.

It’s hockey. That’s the way it happens.

No, it is revolting to think the way you do about a country we share a peaceful 3000 mile border with.
A country who has been our best ally for most of the last 250 years.

Barf alert?

This isn't new. They have been doing this at hockey games for decades as a nod to all the Canadian players.

No worries, this will prove beyond all doubt that hockey fans hate Orangemanbad.

Not so. This has nothing to do with politics. It has everything to do with hockey fans - Canadian and American - helping out a singer. The fans want to get on with the game and see the mayhem.

I can’t believe the hatred to such a nice story. I’ve heard that ther countries try to sing ours from time to time. Politics has gotten even uglier than imagined possible.

F Air Canada by the way.

That borderline non-sequiter made me laugh. Thank you.

Buffalo has a huge Canadian fan base so you can’t assume it was Americans singing.

It’s a hockey story. No peace, love or kumbaya. Where man sheds his civilized nature and reveals his inner base sordid nature. If there’s no fight or at least one tooth dislodged, it’s not hockey.

It’s good sportsmanship and good neighborliness and would have been recognized as such until last year or so.

And how do you know that they were Americans singing, and not Canadians who aren’t keen on their government and who want to root for a team that actually has a chance to win the cup?

Detroit plays both anthems even though it may be two American teams playing?

The lyrics of the French version are completely different...

O Canada!
Land of our ancestors,
glorious deeds circle your brow,
for your arm knows how to wield the sword,
your arm knows how to carry the cross.
Your history is an epic of the most brilliant exploits,
and your value, tempered by faith,
will protect our homes and our rights.

Swords and crosses! Not very PC.

Thanks.

I agree with you, it’s good sportsmanship that fans on each side of the border can pitch in to sing the other anthem when the mic fails.

A better solution would be laws in both countries PROHIBITING the singing of either national anthem at any sporting event. I don’t like this ritual and I don’t think it improves anyone’s patriotism. But I realize that’s just me and the tradition will go on.

Every now and then a hockey media outlet will publish a list of the 100 Greatest NHL Players of All Time. You will typically go through at least 25 players — including maybe a half-dozen Europeans — before you get to the first American-born player on the list.
