“The real reason America created public schools… had nothing to do with education.” It’s a bold claim—but the truth is more complex, and far more interesting than the headline suggests. 🧠
Public education in the United States began taking shape in the 19th century, especially during the Common School Movement led by Horace Mann. His goal wasn’t to avoid education—it was to expand it. At the time, schooling was inconsistent, often private, and inaccessible to many families. Public schools were created to provide free, basic education to all children, regardless of social class. 🏫
But education wasn’t the only purpose. These schools also aimed to create a more stable and unified society. In a rapidly growing nation with waves of immigration and industrial change, leaders saw schools as a way to teach shared values, civic responsibility, and basic skills needed for work and participation in society. 🌍
Critics often point out that early public schools emphasized discipline, routine, and conformity—preparing students for factory life during the Industrial Revolution. There’s some truth to that. Schools did reflect the needs of the time, including workforce preparation and social order. But that doesn’t mean education wasn’t the goal—it means it served multiple purposes at once. ⚙️
So was it about control, or about opportunity? The answer is: both factors played a role. Public schools were designed to educate, but also to shape citizens, reduce inequality, and respond to economic demands. Over time, the system evolved into what we recognize today. 📈
In this video, we break down the real history behind public education in America, separating facts from viral claims and exploring why schools were created in the first place.
Watch until the end—because the truth is more layered than the theory.

We don’t need no education

They were always a tool to suppress individualism and ensure conformist thought. The Prussian model.
I never could cooperate. Study, think, sure. But on my terms, the subjects that intrested ME.
That’s why w have home schooling
And yet, we have spent trillions indoctrinating children to believe whatever the leftist schools teach them.
That process started in the 1930s with the importation of the Frankfurt School into Teachers College. By that time public schooling was such a large enterprise that it took generations for that communist ideology with all of its obvious baggage to overcome institutional inertia. But it obviously now has.
Religious private schools, too. There was a SCOTUS case where the education-crats tried to ban all non-public education in one state. Failed, fortunately.
I realized when I was still in high school that American education was about keeping Americans down and on the factory floor. Government run education is always about control. We have to destroy it if we want to be free.
Now the leftardian education IS the institutional inertia that has to be fought against. It will take more generations. In the interim, parents’ educational cooperatives are gaining a foothold, as is homeschooling and parochial schooling.
Concerns about catholic schools
It’s always about control with these sick a@@-holes. Covid, fighting “mis-information,” the fake news, everything. All that threatens them gets demonized.
Especially now with public education collapsing. Obviously, they will keep government schools in the blue states.
I went to one of those, a school for gifted kids run by Hungarian dissident priests who got out from behind the Iron Curtain. It’s now defunct. I didn’t cooperate there, or in yeshiva either. I’m nothing but a troublemaker, I guess. But I do have a two-year degree in paralegal studies, fwiw. Hate lawyers. Studied literature, Arabic, Ancient Greek, and composed poems while commuting to and from work.
“Obviously, they will keep government schools in the blue states.”
Yuh. A century and a half of corruption cannot be allowed to perish.
Public schools? Call it what it is...compulsory govt education.
Public schools were created locally to educate children in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
There already was an infrastructure in place to educate kids, and a high literacy and numeracy rate. Public education was created locally to replace that infrastructure with something more usable to the authorities. It’s in the video.
We need to allow them to decline so they'll eventually lose power in the Electoral College.
But we need to win the White House in 2028.
Correct.
It will take more generations.
Only if we retain the institution.
In the interim, parents’ educational cooperatives are gaining a foothold, as is homeschooling and parochial schooling.
Given that we're spending $20K per child per year, we should exercise our options.
