The Justice Department on Friday dropped its criminal investigation into Fed Chairman Jerome Powell.
This clears the way for Trump’s Fed Chair nominee Kevin Warsh to be confirmed.
Senator Thom Tillis vowed to block Trump’s Fed Chair confirmation until the Justice Department dropped its investigation into Powell.
US Attorney Jeanine Pirro made the announcement on Friday morning:
"This morning the Inspector General for the Federal Reserve has been asked to scrutinize the building costs overruns – in the billions of dollars – that have been borne by taxpayers.
The IG has the authority to hold the Federal Reserve accountable to American taxpayers. I expect a comprehensive report in short order and am confident the outcome will assist in resolving, once and for all, the questions that led this office to issue subpoenas.
Accordingly, I have directed my office to close our investigation as the IG undertakes this inquiry. Note well, however, that I will not hesitate to restart a criminal investigation should the facts warrant doing so."

Trump wants Powell out as soon as possible. He caved to Tillis to expedite the confirmation of his replacement. A drop in interest rates could fuel a big boost in the economy and impact the midterms.
You have to know when to hold them and when to fold them. I guess the DOJ could open a new investigation later.
Makes me want to vomit like the old days when I drank to excess.
That pimp tillis can't be gone soon enough but we still have the two old broad senators and the crazy eye doctor and the worst of all, the double dealing, pretty boy, back stabbing, john thune.

Exactly. Just because one leaves doesn’t mean they are immune from prosecution. Well, sort of.
Justified or not, Powell’s prosecution at this point is moot. His term is up in May and there is ZERO to be gained from holding up the confirmation vote on his successor on what is, in DC swamp terms, a relatively minor charge.

whose IG is it that this was passed on to? obviously getting interest rates down is more important in the big picture than the timing of nailing “Too Late.” it’s obvious he is incompetent on the basis of his record on inflation - the horrendous building cost overruns- and the destruction of a handsome building.

No, almost certainly just the result compelled by the ga between the legal standards for whatever law was claimed is being violated, and the lack of evidence sufficient to meet that standard.
