Sobbing killer driver begged her victim's family for forgiveness in court - only for them to shout VERY satisfying reply

A Las Vegas woman who mowed down a young father with her Tesla as he was crossing the street has begged his family for forgiveness in court.

Karen Cannon, 64, left pedestrian Patrick Deloria for dead after she struck him with her Tesla Model Y on May 13 last year and drove off.

She pled guilty to one count each of reckless driving resulting in death and attempt duty to stop at the scene of a crash involving death in January, court records show.

Cannon appeared in court for her sentencing hearing on Wednesday and sobbed as she asked Deloria's widow and family for forgiveness.

'It's unfortunate, I didn't mean for this to happen. I'm so sorry,' she cried, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. 'Please forgive me, please.'

His family, who were seated in the courtroom gallery, shouted back: 'No.'

Deloria, 32, was crossing a busy intersection when Cannon cut off another vehicle and hit him at speeds of around 66mph, an arrest warrant said.

The impact of the collision sent him flying approximately 155 feet into the air. Paramedics rushed to help, but Deloria was pronounced dead at the scene.

She tried to get away with her careless murder/manslaughter. God will forgive her if she is truly repentant. But it doesn’t seem like she has a repentant heart, cause after the event, she tried to hide it.. Ten years is better in jail, and she needs to pay off funeral expenses for victim, and help for the kid.

Read it again

2Co 7:10 For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.

Luk 17:3 So watch yourselves! “If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive.

If there is no repentance, the transaction is not complete.

We are called to forgive IF there is repentance. If there is no repentance, it is something else. You are giving it over to God but it is not a completed transaction.

As I see it, repentance is for the person committing the sin, while forgiveness is for the benefit of the victim.

I have not lost a family member due to a deliberate act, so my point of view is conjecture- but I cannot imagine living with the anger that would result if I refused to forgive someone in that case.

Sure, forgive, but they pay the penalty on earth.

I think her use of the word “unfortunate” was - well, unfortunate.

Forgiven assassin still gets a bullet in his head for all his hard work.

155 feet in the air? Can’t be upward as that’s about 15 stories.

~~~
I suspect that this is (once again) bad writing by “journalists”.
What probably happened is that they were thrown 155 feet from the point of impact to where the came to rest. Combined with the fact that they were also airborn for a good part of the distance that the victim traveled, the description isn’t innacurate, just badly worded.
Agreed. Using the term ‘unfortunate’ implies ‘random bad luck’ OR:
‘if anyone has been deeply troubled by what happened, I am sincerely sorry for your discomfort”. A stilted, cold and detached performance of “sorrow”.
Somehow, I do not think he flew 155 feet into the air.
He very well could have been thrown 155 feet from the collision, but not into the air.
Tragic, regardless, and the family did right - “NO, WE DO NOT FORGIVE YOU”.
My point is that repentance and forgiveness are so intertwined that they almost can’t be separated.
Many people like the idea of forgiveness especially with God but NEVER approach the repentance part. Has God forgiven your sins if there is no repentance? Is the transaction complete?
If the transaction is not completed, is it really forgiveness? I propose it is something else, giving the situation over to God, giving the anger over to God. That is why our “forgiveness” with others is so hard to deal with and comes back again and again, because it is not complete.
But, giving it over to God can be a completed transaction.
But of course now one has to take some time and reflect on what repentance is...............................
I agree. Harboring the hatred in their hearts is bad for them. Forgiveness eases their burden.
Truth. I hope she sincerely comes to repentence during her incarceration.
You are right. I like the way you put it about revenge and bitterness. Let God handle it.
Liberals like to virtue signal take offense on behalf of other people.
I have recently realized that conservatives like to virtue signal by "forgiving" on behalf of other people.
You are not the victim, the victim is dead.
Since you are not the victim you do not get to decide that she needs to be forgiven by you.
I think the judge needed to hear that the family would not be happy with lenience.
The Christian thing would be to forgive her. Maybe they’re not Christian.
Now you made me think. Our logic might say first repentance and then forgiveness. But in God’s world he might forgive us first and then we repent.
But I still stand that there is joy in the completeness and completeness is needed. Maybe God is a little frustrated until we repent? And maybe that applies as we “forgive” others, we long for completeness.
