A Las Vegas woman who mowed down a young father with her Tesla as he was crossing the street has begged his family for forgiveness in court.
Karen Cannon, 64, left pedestrian Patrick Deloria for dead after she struck him with her Tesla Model Y on May 13 last year and drove off.
She pled guilty to one count each of reckless driving resulting in death and attempt duty to stop at the scene of a crash involving death in January, court records show.
Cannon appeared in court for her sentencing hearing on Wednesday and sobbed as she asked Deloria's widow and family for forgiveness.
'It's unfortunate, I didn't mean for this to happen. I'm so sorry,' she cried, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. 'Please forgive me, please.'
His family, who were seated in the courtroom gallery, shouted back: 'No.'
Deloria, 32, was crossing a busy intersection when Cannon cut off another vehicle and hit him at speeds of around 66mph, an arrest warrant said.
The impact of the collision sent him flying approximately 155 feet into the air. Paramedics rushed to help, but Deloria was pronounced dead at the scene.

And why does the make and model of the vehicle matter at all.
More black-on-white violence. Systemic?
Make and model of the car is one of the facts of the case. I’d rather have all the facts.
din du ......
“Make and model of the car is one of the facts of the case. I’d rather have all the facts.”
Exactly. There were cameras all up on that car and she erased the video. She knew darn well that was not a Coyote that she hit.
Interesting how a UK paper would describe the unchristian response as “very satisfying” and thus promote an antichristian ideology of unforgiveness. While understandable in human terms, it ultimately degrades the family of the victims when they harbor hatred or vengeance in their hearts, and one can hope they will be able to let that go, particularly if the wrongdoer is sincere in their penitence. None of this has any bearing on the sentencing or punishment to be meted out, in any case.
What???? You read the ARTICLE?!?!?!?!?! That's HERESY!!!
Yeah ... she done bad from the get-go and tried to cover it up. Three to eight years is way too light for vehicular homicide, fleeing the scene, and tampering with evidence.
I think, that driver possibly could have found some forgiveness, had she not just driven away and left him to die like wounded roadkill.
To knowingly slam your car into somebody, then hit the gas, not bothering to even look back was a sincere expression of her dehumanizing hatred.
It was as though she was out ‘hunting’ certain kinds of people, and was now satisfied, having scored one ‘kill’.
Curious if Tesla has copies of the deleted videos ?
Some times, it’s best to exercise one’s right to remain silent. That may apply to both the convicted perp and the victim’s family in this case.
She did not admit to her sin or crime. She also deleted all the evidence.
The Bible says that if a brother sins against you, and repents, you must forgive.
She has not repented and does not appear to be in Christ, either.
Could be that. Could also be depraved indifference.
It’s always the boo-hoo with these types. After the fact while in court. Pushes the harsh childhood and stuff like that killer of that seven year old girl, his mom says rough childhood. It was a rough time for that girl.
And the perp is a Karen. Make of that what you will.
Over the decades, I have known at least 5 women named “Karen”. None of them are karens.
So that’s what I make of it ...
When someone asks us for forgiveness, our very salvation is at stake in how we answer.
The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant
21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.[a]
23 “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold[b] was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.
26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
28 “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins.[c] He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.
29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’
30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.
32 “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ 34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.
35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.” Matthew 18:21-35
I agree. Unless the “journalist” has some appropriate, legitimate, animus toward a particular make and model of a car involved in an accident, that - the make and model should not be part of the “news”. In any accident 99.99% of the time, drivers, not the cars being driven cause the accident.
“Make and model of the car is one of the facts of the case.”
It may be a fact to the police in correctly identifying the car(s) driven by the driver(s) in an accident, but outside the police investigation it has ZERO relevance as any “news”. Drivers, not their motor vehicles cause accidents, and they, not their cars, is the only “news”.
The make and model of the car driven by a perp in an accident is relevant to the police as part of identifying the perps car, but it is irrelevant to the general news as for the general news the make and model of the car is not a material matter - it means NOTHING.
