New Dates Push Back Occupation of Mohenjo-Daro

New radiocarbon dates for Mohenjo-Daro obtained by archaeologists at the Sindh Directorate General of Antiquities & Archaeology indicate that the city on the banks of the Indus River in southwestern Pakistan was occupied as early as 2700 to 2600 B.C., about two hundred years earlier than previously thought, according to an IFL Science report. The site is known for its burnt-brick structures spread over some 590 acres, where at least 40,000 people are thought to have lived. Evidence for a system of water infrastructure, including baths, wells, and sewage pits, has been found among the city ruins. Samples for the new radiocarbon dates were taken in the upper part of the city, from the mudbrick wall that surrounds the western Stupa Mound. The researchers also determined that these walls were expanded and maintained until at least 2200 B.C. They plan to trace the wall around the Stupa Mound, looking for traces of gates and studying how it functioned. For more on the site, go to "Mohenjo-Daro's Buddhist Past."

It may be a Stupid Mound, but given the plumbing, the people back then were NOT stupid.

Their plumbers probably didn’t charge as much per hour.

“Their plumbers probably didn’t charge as much per hour.”

Non-union to boot. No wonder they were so productive.

I’ve always wondered why white people
aren’t so ancient.
Perhaps we come from a very unforgiving
environment?
A very unstable environment where
you have to constantly
change to survive?
We didn’t build pyramids, because we were too
busy trying to survive?
We managed to build beautiful
Cathedrals, but a small fire
can destroy them.
Just a curious observation.

You got it right. In the Indian subcontinent humans could survive without heat, land was productive all year round without freezing temps. And plenty of large rivers such as Indus, ganges, narmada, tapi, mahi, etc. with fresh water year round. I places like England or Scandinavia or Germany or Russia, one would freeze to death without source of heat. So people were busy collecting firewood and storing food for winter.

It seems that the original population of Europe arrived from the Mideast with their dairy cattle, horses, and agricultural grains, gradually settling in as farmers and herders and populating the continent. White skin came to predominate because it was favored as a matter of health and survival. As it happens, white skin facilitates vitamin D metabolism in cloudy northern latitudes with sunlight limited by season.
