The backstory:
The investigation began on Dec. 3, 2025, when Florence police conducted a traffic stop on a pickup truck towing a trailer with faulty lighting. Officers found three dead cattle inside the trailer along with evidence that the animals had recently been killed.

What is the punishment for stealing cows in Texas?

The Texas Penal Code lists the theft of even a single cow valued between $30,000 and $150,000 as a third-degree felony, punishable with anywhere from 2 to 10 years in jail.

If the value of the stolen cattle is more than $150,000 but less than $300,000, that is considered a second-degree felony, punishable by anywhere from 2 to 20 years in jail.

Lastly the cattle theft can be considered a first-degree felony is the value of the stolen cattle surpasses $300,000. In that case the convicted thief could receive anywhere from 5 to 99 years in prison.

Regardless of felony degree, any theft of cattle will accrue a fine not to exceed $10,000 in addition to a prison sentence.

There were some Americans doing those things in a McCloud episode back in the 70s.

3 per trailer is still a lot of trips. These guys were probably customers. 70 animals are hard to hide. There’s still a central location. Do ranchers insure the herd? IDK but I would wonder about collusion.

They violated Rule 1 for criminals. Only break one law at a time.

I would have thought 70 would get you up to at least a 2nd degree felony. Must have been some skinny cows.

I googled to see any report of citizenship/visa/no visa.
No mention in any of the stories returned.

What was interesting was https://ohss.dhs.gov/topics/immigration/illegal/population-estimates

breakdowns by period of entry, region and country of origin, state of residence, age, and sex. Most entered the country without inspection or were temporary residents who stayed past the date they were required to leave.

If the entered without inspection we do not know when they entered. I’ve known many that leave every Nov and come back illegally every March. So which entry are we counting?

A very large number of illegals have expired visa. How many of them got married and are now in process to become legal and then naturalized?

The reality is that we/nobody really knows the number of “illegals”. It depends on how we define illegal. Talk to H1b in IT and discover that they do not have an H1b. Ask them what their immigration status is and they reply “It is in process” meaning they have no visa right now and are hoping to find a way at some unknown point in the future.

Bottom line: WE DO NOT KNOW.

From what a can tell, the number is over 50 million illegal aliens. And that’s not counting their progeny. And they are ALL on medicaid! Many have debilitating diseases and many are disabled. The taxpayers are paying a shitload of money for these non-citizens and their children. It’s obscene! AND many are criminals.
A lot have psychiatric issues like schizophrenia. These were literally dumped on us by their countries of origin.

Primarily horse thieves, since about the meanest thing you could do to a man in the Old West was steal his horse. But cattle rustlers were known to get their necks stretched too, especially if there was no local law around.
