Congressmen renew push to make Easter Monday a federal holiday

Rep. Riley Moore, R-West Virginia, is once more calling on Congress to pass his bill to enshrine Easter Monday as a federal holiday.

“In just seven years, we mark the 2,000th anniversary of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. That milestone will be one of the most significant moments in the history of the world. We should be preparing for it,” Moore wrote in an April 6 social media thread.

“More than 80% of Americans — Democrats and Republicans — celebrate Easter,” Moore said. “Most other Western nations already observe Easter Monday as a public holiday. The U.S. is the outlier. It’s time to fix that.”

Moore also pointed out the “practical benefits” of the bill, which he named the Easter Monday Act, saying it would give families who travel for Easter “the breathing room to be fully present — with their relatives, in their churches, and at their dinner tables” rather than having “to rush home Sunday night to make it to work Monday morning.”

“Just as Christ continued appearing to his apostles for 40 days after his resurrection, our celebration of Easter should not end at the strike of midnight,” he said. “Easter Monday is an invitation to carry the meaning of Easter into our daily lives — and into the public life of our nation, which has been gripped by a culture of death for far too long.”

U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See Brian Burch responded to Moore’s post, writing: “It’s actually quite shocking Easter has never been a national holiday, owing only to the fact that it’s always on a Sunday.”

If Kwanzaa and “Juneteenth” are federal holidays then Easter should be too.

As a kid growing up in a small southern KS town in the 60s & 70s, our “spring break” consisted of getting Good Friday & Easter Monday off from school. The town had a large Catholic population which also meant fish on Friday in the school cafeteria. I wasn’t Catholic but I did like the fish.

Get rid of those two worthless “wokedays” and put in Easter instead.

Kudos to that! As well as any business or restaurant that promotes it during Lent. McDonald's started the trend of discounting fish sandwiches on Fridays during Lent decades ago, and several fast food chains continue to follow suit.

My local Sprouts market had special sushi & seafood specials and discounts. BUT WHOLE FOODS did a whole thing with "Lunar New Year" and "Ramadan" promotions, but NOTHING for LENT!

That annoyed me!

"Congressmen renew push to make Easter Monday a federal holiday"

Why, so you a-holes can get another three-day weekend out of the taxpayers? Since most of the time, you all leave early on Fridays, that would actually mean another four-day weekend for you losers.

Easter Monday in Buffalo is “Dyngus Day”. It involves, improbably, pussy willows, squirt guns and plenty of beer. Who would be against all that?

In Europe, it's just a given that Easter Monday (and December 26th) are public holidays.

My father advocated greatly reducing the number of universal federal holidays and hive everyone two affinity holidays. Only veterans would get veterans day, for example, if they wanted it. Blacks could have Martin Luther King Day, Christians could have Christmas day, Jews Passover, etc.

The argument from the far-left loonies would be to have special days off for their
many diverse constituents.

Three hundred sixty-five days off annually for federal employees and politicians.

We have enough useless holidays. Easter Monday??

Telly ya what. How about we quit the meaningless Juneteenth goofy day, and take on Easter Monday in trade.

Mmm-kay?

Just make Good Friday a holiday. The stock market is already closed on Good Friday.

Signing Juneteenth into law as a federal holiday.

A non-holiday that very few celebrate or even care about, and yet another paid holiday for federal workers.

Quintessential "Biden Administration".

In Canada Good Friday is a statutory holiday. Easter Monday is a partial holiday with Fed gov employees off but not other levels. Employers must give either Friday or Monday off although many grant both.
