STORRS, Conn. (WTNH) — The University of Connecticut has taken down its lampposts on the Storrs campus ahead of the Final Four matchups for the men’s and women’s basketball teams this weekend.
“The removal of the lamp posts is a pro-active way of preventing possible vandalism that could result from the celebration of this weekend’s games,” UConn officials said. “This is the third time we have removed the lamp posts, and it has proven effective, along with an increased security presence and student messaging.”

It's not higher education. It's UCONN.
What this says is that the students allowed into universities are selected for some criteria other than a desire to learn. If universities were selecting for merit and dedication, then there would be few if any inherent security or vandalism problems.
Were they expecting hangings? Better cut down the trees as well, apes love trees.
Yesterday I picked hubby up at the Indy airport. The place has been festooned with welcomes to the Final Four all over the atrium. Hubby said there was stuff all through the terminals, too. Pop up kiosks and such.
He was coming in from Baltimore and most of those getting off were wearing U Conn gear. If I had more time, it might’ve been fun to be a people watcher over there.
People look at the Democrats and often say “We don’t have enough lampposts.”
And here we are getting rid of some of the lampposts we do have. Tsk Tsk Tsk.
Darkness as a cure for vandalism. Is there anything those college people don’t know?
Rooting for both teams this weekend...UConn lost their hockey playoff last weekend...
Dad was a UConn grad...
Dad was a Uconn professor, Dr of EE
Exactly.
Deal severely with the vandals, and this disgusting behavior will lessen.
Also, in the weeks leading up to these games, they could have some respected player do public service announcements admonishing the vandalism.
Lastly, let the students know that the games will be canceled if antisocial behavior starts up.
Such warm nostalgia associated with celebrating victories by pulling down goalposts... unless you are one of the unfortunates hit by the falling uprights and/or crossbar.
They would never think of punishing those students who tear down lampposts!
Hoping for an Illinois-Michigan Final.
Bad move. It will jinx UCONN
Have the players reinstall ‘em if they lose.
Not much. Drunk students hanging from lampposts has been going on since lampposts have existed at colleges. They did it when I was in college in the 1980s and I saw pictures of them doing it in the 1960s.
JUST POST A GUARD.. GEEBUS....
This must cost a fortune
“UConn takes down lampposts ahead of men, women Final Four matchups this weekend”. Replaced with what, green cylindrical objects?
I believe the women’s will win, the men’s will be a bit harder, but Dan Hurley will have them ready. It might be another duel championship year...
