Dubai chocolate has become one of the most talked-about food phenomena on social media. Behind this ultra-indulgent bar lies a recent history, rooted in Middle Eastern culinary tradition and propelled to fame at lightning speed by TikTok.
Dubai Chocolate was created in 2021 by Fix Dessert Chocolatier, a boutique based in Dubai. Its creator, Sarah Hamouda, an engineer of British-Egyptian origin, teamed up with chef Nouel Catis Omamalin with a simple but bold idea: to transform the experience of knafeh, an iconic Middle Eastern dessert made with kadaif [editor’s note: fresh angel hair], cheese, butter, and pistachios or walnuts, topped with syrup, into a modern chocolate bar. The flagship product, called “Can’t Get Knafeh of It,” remains a niche item, sold in limited quantities and mainly to a local clientele.
Its DNA lies in its composition. This milk chocolate bar contains a generous pistachio cream center, enriched with tahini, the famous sesame paste. Inside, there is also kataifi, a finely shredded filo pastry that provides a striking crunchy contrast. This combination creates an unusual sensory experience: crunchiness mingles with melt-in-the-mouth texture, while pistachio dominates the flavor profile. Visually, the bright green filling contrasts with the chocolate. A detail – alongside its exotic name – that would play a key role in its success…
However, it remains to be seen whether the war in Iran and its geopolitical repercussions in the Gulf monarchies will ultimately undermine its success. The very name of Dubai, which until now has been a selling point because it evokes unbridled luxury in the middle of the desert and an oasis of pleasure in the heart of the Middle East, is now far less appealing since military drones and debris from Iranian missiles have darkened the skies over the City of Gold.

That looks inedible.
I know a lot of people liked this stuff but I was disappointed after all the hype.
I tried it last summer. It’s good, but not worth the money they charge for it.
I used to see that stuff all over the floor in the mule barns. I didn’t know it was supposed to be chocolate and eat it.
It was OK. The sweet & salty combination was OK, but not as good as the hype.
Check the label.
Dubai chocolate is made in Turkey.
For those of you with suspect geography skills, Turkey IS NOT in Dubai.
Too bad they didn’t make it with dark chocolate.
Too damn sweet.
Its basically a Butterfinger (texture inside vs outside) but without the chocolate. And the inside, well its definitely not as good as the Butterfinger’s innards. In fact, not only does it look like goose poop, it kind of actually taste like it thanks to way too much of the shredded stuff’s dubious flavor.
Hard pass - will not waste my money on it again.
Suggest Japanese Royce Chocolate instead - smoooooth as silk and melts perfectly on the tongue.
I bought some at Tom Leonard’s and it was obscenely sweet and just plan gross.
It’s delicious but not worth the price.
it’s crap. Pure crap.
If you live near an Aldi they have a single bar of Dubai style chocolate that’s actually pretty good. Still a little on the pricey side, but good. Rich, not to sweet.

I bought a bar of the "Dubai Chocolate" in August at the Dublin, Ireland airport. The stuff was everywhere. "Meh" is the best I can muster.
Yummy stuff, but carb-loaded, so no thanks.
I’ve bought it from Costco a few times. I think it tastes really good. I imagine some products aren’t as good as what Costco sells.
When Trader Joes came out with their Dubai bars last year they sold out instantly and could never be found again. Costco has a few versions of this, including a cake, but that cake had like 40 ingredients so I gave it a pass.

“angel hair],, butter, and pistachios or walnuts, topped with syrup”
That’s baklava, so far so good. My mom used Shredded Wheat.
Cheese?
Chocolate?
Yupik Organic Raw Cocoa Powder, 2.2 lb at Amazon. They have a few variations of their cocoa powder. Mix with water or apple juice. Add a good sweetener such as honey / maple syrup / blackstrap molasse. Pinch of sea salt.
