I'm wondering if there is a way to program the news in Free Republic in specific ways. Can you create your own feed? Have a feed of just good news? Or have a feed that excludes topics that you hate. Is there anyway control this or are we at the mercy of whoever posts what they post.
I know there are trends in the news, for example, Epstein or trans gender topics, but sometimes you have had enough of a subject to the point of not wanting to even see the headlines... because these posts will show up. So if you had a feed you can program that would be perfect... you get the news you want hear about. Maybe other people feel this way too.
So if you leave the room when a commercial happens, you're doing yourself some sort of injustice?
Me, I'm very selective, and anywhere I can be more selective, I'm in favor of that.
Yeah, there are times when scrolling down FR I find it a bit depressing, too, simply because it’s a bad news day for our side.
When that happens I just get away from FR and news in general and do something else, like go for a walk, do something around the house, meet with a friend at Starbucks, check on investments, etc.
Spending all your time on FR is not a good thing. Just check it a couple times a day, it’ll be good for your health.

I don't know if you're serious about having done that or not, but regardless, that's a helluva great idea. It shouldn't be that difficult, given FR's simple layout and format, to devise a scanner/filter for any particular predilection one might have.

Yeah, I understand. See the comments #23 and #24 above -- what you want is a scanning filter. FR doesn't have one as such built in, but there are attributes on every thread that you can scan for and/or filter out:

Exactly what I do. And sometimes a title will fly by quickly, and I chuckle or gasp — and just keep on scrolling.

There are a lot of topics I simply do not like here on FR. So I just move past them until I find something I really want to read. It’s easy. Just pick and choose as you go.
To create a news feed to fit individual tastes would likely require software of sorts to create this. I don’t think that idea would go over too well with the admin folks, as that would take quite a bit more money to operate this place.
I’ve shopped around the net for better conservative forums and came to the conclusion FR is probably the best. There is another one out there but it is very full of profanity and hatred that I really do not want to be an active member in it. I do read it for news bits, but it’s strictly a second choice. FR is the best.
Reading only the news you want hear...that’s like putting blinders on and going to college. You see what comes out.
