A Gen X woman has pushed back against the idea that women become "ugly" in mid-life, telling viewers online that embracing aging has been the most-liberating part of her life and rejecting the pressure to perform femininity as she gets older.
Jennine Jacob, 51, from San Francisco, California, shared her perspective to Instagram after seeing a viral discussion about women’s looks in their 40s. In comments to Newsweek, Jacob said she wanted to offer an alternative view—one rooted in acceptance rather than anxiety.
"I had seen a woman speak about how no one prepared her how ‘ugly’ she would be in her 40s," the personal stylist said. "I wanted to share my experience, because I didn’t see it that way once I accepted my aging process."
Jacob added that her relationship with appearance has shifted significantly over time.
"Admittedly, in my 40s, I did try to fight aging with Botox, face tape, and filters," she said. "But my career really took off when I walked away from all of that. In my experience, accepting my age and aging has been the most-liberating part of my life."
Jacob's comments came after the video she posted to Instagram on March 7 sparked widespread engagement and discussion. Shared via her account, @jennine.jacob, the video has been viewed more than 63,000 times, receiving over 3,800 likes alongside a stream of supportive comments from viewers.
In the clip, Jacob appears speaking directly into the camera, responding to the idea that women are unprepared for becoming "ugly" in mid-life.

Gen X woman just now figured this out, huh?
Apparently.
The Wall is undefeated.
The bull ring through the nose really helps.
No mention of husband or children.
She’s done with the patriarchy!
Those glasses, the nose ring, and the uptalk are just not attractive.
OMW! You made me go look. Ewww... What is that fool thinking?
The cheat code is that a good woman will always look beautiful to a man who loves her. Of course, most of the AWFL types are lacking in that department....
More like the patriarchy is done with her. Her unstated complaint is that she is no longer fertile and can no longer breed. That’s why they call it manopause.
Now that I’m in my mid 70s, women in their 40s and 50s look real good!
“The wall” hits both sexes.
Ugly billionaire men are considered very attractive by most women.
I can’t figure out why.
Lol.
“Admittedly, in my 40s, I did try to fight aging with Botox, face tape, and filters,” she said. I did too sweetheart, with a bottle of Tito’s...didn’t work out.
This is a clever advertisement for a business owner.
“Jacob said her perspective is shaped by not only personal experience but also her professional work. As a stylist, she helps women navigate their sense of self and style later in life”

...and, on the other hand, you have couples like this...
Ugh...nose ring...sheesh. Why do women put in nose rings?
