As tensions grow between the United States and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. Air Force has launched A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircrafts to target boats that are ambushing ships through the essential waterway. During a Pentagon briefing, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine said, “The A-10 Warthog is now engaged across the southern flank, targeting fast-attack watercraft in the Strait of Hormuz.”

I might be wrong, but I think Apache gun ships are there as well.

When you hear the “brrrrt”. They weren’t shooting at you. The target is dead. You’re next.

Are the Iranian boats out motoring around on joy rides or is bait used to lure them out from wherever they hide?

Easy pickings for A-10s and their AGM-65 "Maverick” missiles. The Maverick has been in use since 1972 by the USAF, USN, and USMC. A tactical, air-to-surface guided missile designed for close air support, interdiction, and defense suppression, it's known for its "launch-and-leave" capability, it uses TV, infrared, or laser guidance to strike targets like armor, air defenses, and ships. It has been used since 1972 by the USAF, USN, and USMC.

I think they should be using drones that Palmer Lucky has been creating with his coumpany Anduril Industries:

He became a billionaire at the age of 21, and is a product of home schooling, I might add.

A very interesting man, and an impressive one as well.

As local to the area where the mighty Warthogs were born, this fills me with a pride I cannot adequately describe.

Funny trivia. When I was 18 I had a roommate for about a yr....until they moved to Houston. Eventually she married and moved to Colorado. We’ve stayed in touch all these years. Her daughter married Palmer Lucky.

Even after the several attempts (desires?) by Military leadership to shut down the A-10’s, the airplane keeps on producing results.
It is a uniquely appropriate response aircraft for many of the ever-changing conditions in modern-day asymmetric warfare; adaptable in mere seconds; protective of pilots; durable beyond belief. It doesn’t make sense to take it out of play.

Plus, their ammo is cheaper than missiles. It’s a win-win, baby!

Even after the several attempts (desires?) by Military leadership to shut down the A-10’s

Air Force wanted to retire all of its 162 A10's in 2026, but now plans to eliminate the entire A-10 fleet by 2027

As of mid-2025, many A-10s have already been moved to the "boneyard" at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. 713 were originally built
