As tensions grow between the United States and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. Air Force has launched A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircrafts to target boats that are ambushing ships through the essential waterway. During a Pentagon briefing, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine said, “The A-10 Warthog is now engaged across the southern flank, targeting fast-attack watercraft in the Strait of Hormuz.”

Heard the apaches were concentrating on drones.
When you hear the “brrrrt”. They weren’t shooting at you. The target is dead. You’re next.
Are the Iranian boats out motoring around on joy rides or is bait used to lure them out from wherever they hide?

Even after the several attempts (desires?) by Military leadership to shut down the A-10’s, the airplane keeps on producing results.
It is a uniquely appropriate response aircraft for many of the ever-changing conditions in modern-day asymmetric warfare; adaptable in mere seconds; protective of pilots; durable beyond belief. It doesn’t make sense to take it out of play.

Plus, their ammo is cheaper than missiles. It’s a win-win, baby!

Air Force wanted to retire all of its 162 A10's in 2026, but now plans to eliminate the entire A-10 fleet by 2027
As of mid-2025, many A-10s have already been moved to the "boneyard" at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. 713 were originally built
Where would Apaches operate from ?
even A-10s would need to refuel from eu or Diego(don’t think any there)
