Japanese Reporter: "Why didn’t you tell Japan about your surprise attack against Iran?" Trump: "Who knows better about surprises than Japan? Why didn't you tell me about Pearl Harbor?"

ransomnote: I excerpted the video. The first half is the the Japanese PM's reaction to Trump asking why Japan didn't tell the US about Pearl Harbor in advance (she straightens in her chair). The second half was her reaction to his statement, 'You believe in suprise, I think, much more than us.' (She raises her brows and blinks)

President Trump on Jerome Powell:

He’s under investigation for what they’re spending on the new building. Something is going on there. He has Trump Derangement Syndrome, it’s not a curable disease 🤣

>> I see no reason to shame and antagonize them.

And I see no reason for that snot-nosed wanker of a Japanese reporter to attempt to shame and antagonize the Leader of the Free World! If Mrs. President Of Japan didn’t like it, she shouldn’t have brought him.

At least the US got a late document, but I don’t think Great Britian got anything for Hong Kong or Malaya.

I don’t think Trump was intentionally shaming anyone except for maybe the reporter. It is actually a very accurate answer.

Potus can be criticized when he does something to hurt America. So far Trump is batting 1000.

Trump is American to the core, and, like the rest of the world, the Japanese have been dealing with the directness of American humor and manners long enough to be neither shamed nor antagonized.

Yes, Japanese students are taught about Japan’s 1941 surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in high school history classes—typically in a short paragraph or two, framed as a preemptive strike after U.S. embargoes and resource pressures, with a photo of the USS Arizona often included. It’s described factually as a “surprise attack,” not emphasized like the atomic bombings or war’s end.

PM Takaichi, born in 1961 and deeply versed in WWII history as a nationalist leader, knows it intimately. Trump’s line was a wry historical nod to Japan’s surprise tactics, not suggesting she was unaware. The attack was indeed a total surprise to U.S. forces that day.

“Potus can be criticized when he does something to hurt America.”

He can be criticized anytime by anyone for any reason.

yes, and this PM is a big supporter of Trump’s policies. Unwise to embarrass her publicly like that.

In the early 80’s I worked as a programming instructor for a Japanese machine tool company in America. The regional manager asked me on July 3 if I could go to a customer site the next day to fix whatever the maintenance problem was. He offered extra pay for working on a holiday. I said I wasn’t interested in the pay, I just wanted a replacement day off. He said fine, what day, I replied “December 7th”.He was not amused.

Japan did plan on delivering a message of declaration of war, but Roosevelt already knew, so he slept. His reasoning was, a sneak attack plays better than admitting the US was already at war in China, and had cut off supplies Japan needed. Rubber, oil etc.

My Dad was wounded fighting the Japanese and island hopping with Australian forces. He was my hero, but FDR was a prick and sane people knew it at the time.

Building coalitions is the most important job of a President, King or Premier of a country. Diplomacy takes a stiff spine, along with an intelligent manner. DJT is on the Biden side of intelligence. Not quite senile, but on the slide into dementia. Better than Kamala, but then again who wasn’t?

nothing for her to be embarrassed about and not many Americans who fought in the Pacific would have had a problem with his statement either.. People who get the social media vapors are amusing

As much as I hate Iran as a nation and would love nothing better if it went to the dustbin of history God has plans in the future for Iran just not at this time. DJT has a terrible ego problem and really undercuts himself with it...I really felt bad for the prime minister of Japan.

FDR was a prick and sane people knew it at the time.

A lot of the Media, mostly the radio networks, but others as well, covered for FDR.

During the war, FDR consolidated power with the censorship regime.

To give credit, FDR did not completely micromanage the war, and we won.
