The Arizona sheriff leading the hunt for Nancy Guthrie has responded to efforts to recall him for being “an embarrassment” for his handling of the high-profile kidnapping case.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos addressed the effort to oust him soon after it was first revealed by The Post on Tuesday.
Republican congressional candidate Daniel Butierez told The Post on Tuesday that he had launched the recall campaign over Nanos’ handling of the Guthrie case as well as allegations he misrepresented his employment history.
There is increasing disquiet over his conduct among rank-and-file Pima County police officers as well as Sheriff Nanos’s fellow Democrats, according to Butierez, who is standing in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District this November.
Nanos “has been an embarrassment to Tucson and to Pima County with this Nancy Guthrie case,” Butierez said. “Everyone’s pretty disgusted, Democrats and Republicans.”
Starting last Thursday, when he officially began recall proceedings, Butierez has 120 days to collect the necessary signatures to oust Sheriff Nanos.

Nanos has been embarrassment since he took over.
It just now went national!
I saw yesterday an article saying that sheriff chose NOT to use Cadaver dogs, which the article says, ‘defies logic’.

Pima County...the Cook County of Arizona. Loaded with incompetent, corrupt democrat filth.
A lot of decisions this sheriff has made defy logic IMO.
I’m no law enforcement expert, but some of it would just seem like common sense to me.....like sending DNA evidence to the FBI lab instead of some no name outfit in Florida. Sheesh. SMH
We’ll see if they eventually catch the perp. No DNA at the scene is a problem. Limited video is a problem. If there is no useful cell data then this is tough to solve. I’d say you need a good lead from one of these 3 sources.
I’m not sure how many police forces are equipped to deal with a celebrity kidnapping like this.
He should have enlisted all the support he could get.
I have little faith in the FIB no matter who is director or who is POTUS.
That said, they should have been major players from the beginning, for no other reason than to share the responsibility and the blame.
But this two-bit cowboy wanted to micromanage an investigation that was headline news all over the world.
So now he owns the whole deal.
And the body and evidence and perps are in ol’ Mexico.
My view is the kidnappers had low level affiliations with a cartel.
They went rogue.
They now dead and disappeared because the cartel did not want ANY connection to the crime no matter if it wasn’t ordered by them.
What’s the press to do with a case that has turned as cold as ice?
They going to start investigating the investigator.
And it seems that he was deserving of an investigation long before this came along.
Did you ever hear how the suspected kidnapper(s) accessed her home? Because I didn’t.
Last I heard the sheriff answer that was he wouldn’t say because it was part of the investigation.
IIRC he refused to share many details of the case that I’ve seen shared in other cases with no problem.
This reminds me of the police chief in Providence RI when during the shooting at Brown University.
I suspect neither one of those two could find their ass with both hands....and I doubt it’s any coincidence that both oversee liberal communities.
The first day, my sense about this guy was that he had no experience or training in public speaking or dealing with the media. He didn’t even have answers ready for the most basic of questions.
“He didn’t even have answers ready for the most basic of questions.”
Yep, which tells me he didn’t even have the presence of mind to wait until he did.
I participated in enough meetings where I worked to know I’d better have my ducks in a row before I walked in.
Authorities in New Mexico have plenty reason to cover their own culpability. It’s not just the Sheriff.
It’s likely that the kidnapping was carried out by cross border gang. Members of the gang were living illegally, and with impunity, in Pima County thanks to so called “sanctuary” policies.
The gang took Nancy Guthrie to a safe house operated by criminal aliens. She suffered from a heart condition that required constant surveillance and medication. Without medications and treatment she soon died of her condition. Her body was discarded and the gang vanished into the lawless underworld of Northern Mexico.
Nearly every part of this likely scenario would lead to embarrassment not only for the Pima Sheriff but also for much of the Demturd establishment of Arizona.
Most likely, sadly.
He is pretty pathetic. His deputies hate him. 😉
Time to replace him with a lesbian “Person of Color”.
Yep, the only way it gets solved if some witness/person comes forward with the decisive lead.
Raise the reward.
Someone will spill if the price is right.
Well, it's finally over a million $$, where it should have been early on.
Yep.
There is a very good chance that this abduction was part of cartel kidnapping or an illegal alien crime tourist syndicate.
The Pima County Sheriff is a Democrat who is very illegal alien friendly and who may have ties to cartels and illegal alien crime syndicates.
Plus it would ne=be very bad timing for the Democrats to get bad press for high profile criminal activity by illegal aliens engaged in organized crime and human traducing
Didn’t Whoopie Goldberg say that Trump started bombing Iran to get the Nancy Guthrie story off the news?
Oh there it is!
