Nope. I respectfully disagree. With all due respect to the men who signed up after Sep 11 (FWIW the recruiters told me I had a medical restriction), Bush didn't fight after Sep 11 like our prior leaders, even FDR, did after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. If we had gone into Afghanistan with even half the venom that we should have, and beaten them to the point that they begged us to let them surrender, then maybe they would have had the culture change that Japan did.

Back to Iran. It wasn't too long ago that Iran was NOT a 3rd world crap hole. Their memories of real civilization may help them make the leap -- if we teach them that the recent years of "Death to America!!!!!!" bull crap is unhealthy.

A military strongman who is willing to give up the nuclear program and the terrorism sponsoring....one who is a sane nationalist, would be a huge improvement. If we got that outcome, I would be quite satisfied with that outcome. I suspect the Trump administration would be as well.

“Free” has a very different definition for a lot of people. Iran hasn’t had a “free” society in anyone’s living memory. Self governance has to start small and grow under supervision of people who have a clear vision of what not to do. Iran has had a strict society for a long time. Most of the world is not going to like whatever direction the people of Iran choose. Let’s hope they choose wisely.
