Why Movies Now Suck: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Standards for Oscars, Fail Artistic Achievement Like Braveheart, No County for Old Men, Etc.

The Oscars, once Hollywood's premier celebration of cinematic artistry, have increasingly come under fire for prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) mandates over pure merit and storytelling excellence. Titled "Why the Oscars Suck: Diversity, Equity Inclusion Standards Fail Art," this critique highlights how the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Representation and Inclusion Standards-introduced in 2020 and fully enforced for Best Picture eligibility since 2024-have transformed the awards into what many view as a politicized checklist rather than a genuine honor for filmmaking achievement.

Why would anybody want to watch a bunch of pretentious prima donna millionaires congratulate each other for their work in a fantasy world and trashing America in the process?

Not only are they pretentious off screen, but onscreen as well. There is something about young actors in recent years that just rubs me the wrong way--I don't know if it's overacting, or being miscast, or lack of gravitas or what, but they're cringey and unwatchable.

Yeah, for me it was when colin craponneck began to attack law enforcement and not only did the nfl not stop it, they prohibited the Dallas Cowboys from placing a pro police sticker on their helmets.

That was the tipping point for me.

IMHO the quality of movies and tv shows went downhill during and after the writers' strike in 1998.

Companies found out that they could produce shows with amateurs and cartoons much cheaper - hence all the crazy reality shows.

Same with music, it’s been going downhill for quite a while now.

Clint Eastwood is probably the last REAL man in the hollywood movie industry.

Other than him and Bruce Willis I can’t think of any, and because of Bruce’s mental deterioration we’ll never see a new movie from him.

He’s right
I have had some experience there too

Mid 2010s

They require movie makes to insert woke plot lines and inserts

Which you can often tell is not in synch with the arch

Hollywood is run by the left

And they know nothing about conservatives and don’t care to

They simply assume we’re all some pejorative

Nazis
Anti homosexual
Racists

The bulk are leftist red diaper baby urban Jewish
Next group is homosexuals which overlaps with first group
Up next is minorities basically anyone non white
Throw fembots in there too

That’s who green lights and largely creates and distributes movies

Streamers are a bit less Jewish but still leftist

People still erroneously believe that the movies are the product being sold when it's the audience that's being sold.

Hollyweird wouldn’t be producing them if someone weren’t watching them.

You can’t legislate intelligence, morality ... or taste.

The recent passing of Robert Duval was a great loss. Try watching Lonesome Dove and compare the acting of the entire cast to any of these Hollywood soyboys and kewpie dolls today.

Most movies are like living inside a mentally ill liberal fat woman’s brain. I enjoy the little art house flicks and low budget movies available on tubi and youtube free movies. Anything big hollywood I haven’t wasted my time with in decades. They are crap.

That was my only problem with Top Gun Maverick. The DIVERSE group of aviators.

They had a Hispanic woman, Asian Male, Black Male(so did the first Top Gun), Hispanic Male, Asian woman.

At least all the main hero aviators were white men. Which is the reality.

On another thread I posted the Best Picture winners from the last thirty five years that IMHO were worthy of the award.

In the 1990s 7/10 that were awarded Best Picture were truly EPIC Great movies. In the 2000-2010 there were four great movies. The last ten years there were a couple decent movies . Not great, but good movies. The rest were all weird artsy movies that NOBODY saw. Much less went to the theater to see.

I was looking for a movie to watch recently on a website I won’t name. I tried to watch 5 movies that had decent sounding plots. I gave up.

Movie 1: black male, white female
Movie 2: white male, black female
Movie 3: kids movie (nothing wrong with that)
Movie 4: lesbians
Movie 5: white female, black male (they waited until the middle of the movie to introduce the black ex-husband)

Yes, I know there are mixed race couples. I live outside a city that is 50/50, and see mixed raced couples on a regular basis. But this is way past averages. It’s just straight up brain washing.

My media cash goes to my cable TV company, for TV and internet access.

No streaming; don’t like it. Eventually I will likely have to but not so far. My last walk-in movie was in 1986.

TV is news nets, primarily old movies, film noir & TV such as Perry Mason, Mission Impossible, Alfred Hitchcock. The only network program I watched since the mid-80s was 24. That means almost none since the 70s. No Friends. No Seinfeld. No Dexter. I have no clue what might be popular now.

Sports - only the NHL. Other pro sports and even college football, gone for me. Oh, an occasional PGA major, too.

Ford v Ferarri wasn’t so bad. I thought it was pretty good. The audio was great in the theater and it’s based on a true story.

The strike in late 80s made TV better.

Studios pulled out old plots and brought back Mission Impossible, Perry Mason and Columbo. And had the original actors if they were available or alive.

Hollywood can have sex with themselves all they want. I don’t care about it and certainly won’t support anything they do if I don’t like it. Needless to say, the Oscars are about as useful as ‘tits on a boar-hog’ as my Daddy used to say.
