California’s top librarian grilled over missing $650k from Dolly Parton’s literacy program

California legislators have grilled the state’s top librarian about huge sums of money tied to a statewide literacy program linked to country music legend Dolly Parton that are missing.

And it’s the kids who may suffer.

Greg Lucas, the state’s top librarian, has been accused of failing to account for almost $650,000 related to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library during, a literacy initiative meant to deliver free books to young children across the state.

“You don’t have receipts requested six times. You don’t have bank statements requested six times from this committee,” Republican State Sen. Shannon Grove said during a budget hearing on education.

“Where’s the money?”

State officials created a nonprofit and allowed the new organization’s executive director — who also ran a Sacramento consulting firm — to pay that firm at least $208,652, according to committee records.

In 2022, Grove, a Republican from Bakersfield who has also called for stricter controls on criminal diversion programs, authored legislation with then-Democratic Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins to launch a statewide version of the program through the California State Library.

Gov. Gavin Newsom later signed the bill into law, approving $68.2 million in state funding to cover half the cost of books through a dollar-for-dollar match with local partners.

Lawmakers allowed up to 10% — about $6.8 million — for administrative costs and set a goal of enrolling roughly 65% of eligible California children within five years.

The funds remain available through June 30, 2028.

Even the librarians have slush funds in California. So where did this money go? Who got paid?

“Where’s the money?”

Putting off the inevitable.

In todays world it almost impossible to hide where money comes from and where it goes to, unless you deal strictly with cash.

The only thing that surprises me here is that the Democrats in Californication care.

I doubt that this Head Librarian/Consultant is a Republican, so why do they care about measly $650K?

Maybe it's because Dolly is sick.

It’s how the Left rolls - any program they say is “for the children”, ends up as a slush fund for corrupt leftists - whether it be a reading program for kids in Kalifornia or “Learing” centers in Minnesota.
I could go on with BLM and a hundred other programs/pogroms, but only those who already see it would take note.

Every single “program” in California is created in order for some person or group to skim all the money to their own benefit. Including the governor and mayors.

Every Single One.

As sweet, kind, bubbly and funny as Dolly is, I’m pretty sure she and her fans are the last people you want to piss off.

Is he driving a new, high-end Mercedes - or living in a home that in no way he could afford on his salary - like Gavin Newsom?

Has he been on a few luxury vacations lately?

Inquiring minds - and the DOJ and IRS would like to know.

These lefties that skim $$ from these funds always seem to spend it on luxury perks for themselves.

Dolly should get some brawny friends together and give Mr. Lucas a personal tune-up visit.
