President Trump orders oil drilling operations to resume off California

The Trump administration has signed an executive order to resume oil drilling operations off the Southern California coast, citing national energy security concerns.

The order, which invokes a Cold War-era Defense Production Act, will prove controversial despite the potential to bring down gas prices, which are now the highest in America.

Gov. Gavin Newsom also flagged the state would challenge the order in the courts.

Secretary of Energy Chris Wright is now permitted to take actions under the Defense Production Act.

California’s price for a regular gallon hit an average of $5.416 on Friday.

That’s far above the national average of $3.60.

Drivers pay a “California premium” loaded with higher than average state excise and sales taxes, as well hefty fees for climate programs unique to the state.

The state also requires an eco-friendly more costly fuel blend designed to prevent pollution.

Last week, oil giant Chevron warned in a doomsday letter to California Gov. Gavin Newsom that the state will face economic collapse under his “misguided” climate policies.

Gavin is going to have a fit. I can see him staging some gaudy, on location, media event when the actual digging starts.

Get rid of the delta smelt while we are at it. Save California from itself.

Gov. Gavin Newsom also flagged the state would challenge the order in the courts.

Ridiculous for numerous reasons, not the least of which is that even he has to be smart enough to understand the national security implications - and courts should have zero authority to rule on it.

Sounds good except we (CA) have mothballed much of our refinery capacity.

I wish we could get a dozen next gen nuclear reactors. Give us cheap clean power and desalination.

Outside of Texas, North Dakota and Alaska, California has the greatest potential for oil production which due to insane liberals they will not use.

I have no sympathy for your price of fuel. You voted for this and got it

Well CA off the coast drilling sites have low grade crude. Which is great for creating coke and other petroleum products. The losses in trying to convert it to gasoline is large. I worked at a Refinery in CA that processed off shore crude.

When we were young, we lived in Santa Monica and then Marina del Rey. The whole family loved those beaches, spent a lot of time there. Occasionally, a tiny oil spill from a sports power boat would wash up on the beach and it was terrible.

Moved away and went back decades later. The beach had a lot of oil then and the water wasn’t blue. I actually worked for an oil company in LA for awhile and definitely see it from that perspective too. Even got to go on a oil rig while it was drilling.

Drill, Baby drill, but carefully please.

I think the whole world can see that the "Green" global warming agenda is total insanity.

New Things will come along....but it's the realization that things like gas stoves and other gas items...are not harmful and the harm is in shutting down gas supplies or any other fossil fuel.

There's a heck of a lot of oil in federal waters offshore California:

Discovered Resources

Click on the map at the link above to see the oil & gas fields that have already been discovered offshore southern California, most of which have never produced due to California politics. The areas farther up the coast are largely unexplored, but could hold much more..

But did we really ?

Or did machines vote for it all ?

Getting pretty obvious I think.
